Just a little more input on the 2013 GT500.
I really did love that car. Had it 4 years and I bought it in late 2014, before the S550's came out.
For a long time Mustang guy, I always had a goal that someday, I had have a GT500, and this 13 just happened at the right time.
I think a lot of Mustang people have goals and one could be to have a GT500, The 13-14 were the top dog, at the time.
I could always get another 13 or 14 and not regret it.
They are special in their own right.
They really need 3:73 gears as the 3:31 are just too taller.
60MPH in first gear! That crazy.
I agree. Iā€™ve pretty much only ever driven mustangs. And yes, my ultimate has always been to own a Shelby. I toggle between the 500 and the 350 constantly. Something about that snake.... but Iā€™m somewhat spoiled with the latest suspension upgrades. When I hear that the 13/14s are raw, Iā€™m a bit turned off. I can always get more power out of the 350 down the road, true?

Stock for stock.. the GT350 makes better use of everything it has to offer. I did really enjoy the time with my 14, the glass roof was fantastic, but trading it for my 20 CFTP, I don't miss it.

Engine problems aside I would still get the GT350. The S550 is in another league regardless of trim for the S197.

Yep, All the above. There is a reason why I am now driving a 2017 Roush RS3, VMP tuned. LOL.

This.

My '15 GT is several orders of magnitude above what was my '07 GT500, regardless of power deficit. On public roads said deficit is moot.

I would question why you compare these two vehicles, to be honest.

The GT350 is for turns, the last gen GT500 is not. I would ask yourself what kind of performance you want the most and maybe add a few cars to the list?

As much as I do want gobs of power, I still want the best handling possible. So if I had to sacrifice 130hp, so be it.
The S197 solid axle cars do not handle imperfections on the road very well. If you drive on very smooth roads they are fine.

When I used to own a GT350 and I took it to the road course, older GT500s even with aftermarket tunes and power adders quickly ended up in the rear view. Yes I realize speed isn't everything, but I think the GT350 is way better for daily driving as well. The old solid rear axle Mustangs are either way too stiff and bouncing all over the road or they are too soft with terrible body control. The GT350 suspension IMO is nearly perfect. It's firm but not overly so.

And I think the GT350 has plenty of drama and character to entertain on a daily commute. The exhaust noise, the rush of power that comes on at 3,500 rpm, the tramlining, the stellar brakes.. all of it works together to make the GT350 very fun to drive. Mustang GTs are a little too polished and civilized. They can be a little boring and bland.

I was in nearly the exact situation. I was at the dealership 2 weeks ago looking at a beautiful 2014 GT500 with only 10,000 miles.
Next to it was a fresh off the truck 2020 GT350.
I debated and weighed my choices carefully for a solid week with several trips into the dealership.
I ended up taking home the GT350.

To buy a 2019 GT350 or 2014 GT500. Pros/Cons
Iā€™ve always wanted the GT350, but with all the motor issues you hear about.... ugh. Iā€™m really torn.. The 350 is current, new technology, sounds amazing, interior is nice, great suspension off the lot... but the motor has serious demons. Iā€™ve dealt with motor demons with past cars and I donā€™t want it again
What about the 2014 GT500?
Produces gobs of power off the lot, sounds good, fewer motor issues, etc. What else? Howā€™s the suspension?
What to do...?
Here are my thoughts after owning a 2019 GT350. If you plan to buy a 350 I wouldn't modify it. Too many engine failures to simply dismiss. The modifications could cost you 25k, should you have a failure.. That being said the 350 is the superior car to the last gen 500s.

Truth.. we are going to see some used gt350ā€™s with coyotes in them if the racing scene keeps going the way it is.

I agree about not modding it during the warranty period. Of course, I am mostly anti-mod (for engines at least) as I'm probably never going to modify my Fiesta ST, even though I realize big gains can be had for little cash.

Typically it would cost less than $25k to repair a Voodoo though unless you decide to push the easy button and buy a crate engine rather than repair what you have.

True... easy enough to go with an lsx crate for a lot less. I prefer the sound of a aggressive camā€™d engine Over about anything else.

I wouldn't want to ruin a GT350 by putting a crappy low-powered truck motor in it. Maybe a 5.2 XS engine would be ok. I wouldn't say the 5.2 XS is as good as the Voodoo, but at least it makes decent power.
