I think you may be hearing the injectors cause it sounds fine to me. Engines have to make sounds.

I do have active exhaust. I start with quiet mode by default. I leave for work at 0430.

A guy in another group heard noise I am talking about, said all 3 of his do it, one with over 100k on the clock, so he doesn't worry about it. So I will not either, like the BBQ Tick, it started after I did my first oil change.

Thanks,
Richard

I was wondering if the noise was related to the valves as it quietens down after the initial high tick over on the cold start.

During that time I get a strange noise from the valves if they are in there closed position - it's kind of like the extra gasses from the higher start RPM are trying to squeeze their way around the closed valve butterfly.

Is the noise defo from the engine and not from the back of the car ?

Definitely engine, sounds like no oil in the top end for 30 seconds. I start my car remotely as soon as I exit the hangar I work in and can here the tapping then from far away. I am just lucky though, I have every noise TSBs say is a normal characteristic of the engine once hot.

While I know if something was going to come loose, it would have by now; I drive it like I stole it fairly often and have 34k miles on the car. I will eventually put a Borla attack exhaust on, I think that will overcome any other noises I hear.

HelIo friends,

I am curious if any of you have this cold start engine tick. Sounds like a no oil condition top of the engine. Goes away after about 34 seconds. Happens when the car sits about 4 or 5 hours.
Sounds normal to me. You have nothing to worry about, it's just the sound of the injectors.

At approx. 25,000 Ford gave me a new short block because of the tick. I have used Ceratec since and am at 55,000 mi. Still no tic.
