Hello everyone hope all is well. I have a slight issue with the mustang. I am seeing smoke coming from under the hood. Driver side close to the steering wheel. Not sure where its coming from. I see no leaks on the ground when its running. I had an issue awhile back where I was having surging problems and I thought maybe my maf sensor was bad. But it wasn't. But I went ahead and got a maf sensor before I realized it wasn't the problem. Went to change it my car had some issues. Which lead me to believe it was defective. It was running horrible black smoke coming from tailpipe. Sounded rough
Rough idling. Put the old back in everything was back to normal. Now sometimes when I start the car I see smoke coming from engine bay. And sometimes it won't smoke until maybe after I drive it for 20 minutes when I come to a stop. That's what happens the most. Use to be I'd see it smoke immediately upon start up but now seems like I don't see it until after 20-30 minutes. Anyone ever seen or heard about this?

Does this smoke have an odor? A sweet smell? Hot oil? Anything?

Runs smooth. I can drive it around and it runs smoothly. No hiccups or nothing.

Different things smell differently when hot/burned. For example antifreeze smells sweet, oil smells like burnt oil which smells differently than burnt paper or plastic. A burning smell could be anything from a bag caught on the exhaust to and overheated clutch.
If you want help finding the source you're going to have to be more specific.

valve cover leaking on exhaust would be my first port of call To check. Have a very close look at the top of the headers for small oil burn marks etc. Common that valve cover loosen and leak and for oil to run along the back side of the valve cover close to the fire wall And drip off the corner onto the headers.

Another vote for valve cover leak. Would see smoke here and there when stopped at a light or something. Common issue with the (in my case) gen 2 5.0, wouldn't be surprised if it continues to your gen

As others mentioned above, it could be oil leaking valve cover or oil leaking from the sender above the oil filter - the (2) most common areas for oil leaks.

Get a bright LED light in there and see what you can find. If you have the means, get the car safely on ramps or a lift and check under the front end for any oil or other fluid seepage.

Yeah that's right. I see like a line of oil running down where exhaust headers are

Is there a video showing how to change the valve cover gasket for an s550 mustang can't find any? And how difficult would it be? I've changed my air intake taken fuel rail off. Oil change and rear gear oil. So it can't be too harf

Yeah it’s very easy you will be fine. Although I must say I doubt it needs replacing. Just clean area with a can of brake clean and then tigthen the bolts around the cover. 9/10 that’s all it will need.
