Looking at purchasing new and a now perhaps low mile 2018 R.
besides the steering knuckle out of the GT500, any other difference?
18’s are the start of the gen 2 Voodoo, yes?
thank you in advance.

I thought 19s were the gen 2 (or more like sharing the GT500 block).

Big differences? The 19 has the new block, swing, cup2s (not the same as the R, yes they are different). The 20 has the new knuckle which is supposed to eliminate tramlining. I was just driving my CFTP the other day and new knuckle or not, there is still some tramlining.

If you are buying an R, the swing and tire difference are zero'd out. That leaves the new gen block and knuckle. Ford swapped out the block to match the 500 block so they werent manufacturing two seperate but similar blocks. I believe the pistons and rings might have been updated....

My 18 base R used no oil. @honeybadger believes he has narrowed down his oil consumption to a valve train issue (waiting to hear about it). As for the last update, the knuckle may have improved the tramlining, but it is still there. I would not pass on a good 15 to 18 just so that I can say I have the latest updates. I would be more focused on a long term warranty when buying one of these cars.

Thank you for your reply! I thought the Swing was an update on the 2019 (regular) 350 and all the R’s have had the same carbon fiber wing from 2015-2020? I apologize if I was not clear... both the 2018 and (new) 2020 are GT350R.

so if I am seeing this correctly the differences are:

(1) 2018 has gen 1 block vs 2020 with gen 2 shares block with gt500

(2) 2020 has the steering knuckle from the GT500

Yes, the swing on the regular 350s for 19 and 20. The R wing is the same for all years.

(1) 2019 and 2020 have gen 2 block (GT500 block)

(2) Yes.

Not sure if it matters but the 2018’s had drilled rotors and 19+ have solid rotors.

2020 GT350R has new EPAS steering rack from gt500, as well as magneride and abs tuning I believe from reading previous posts on this forum. FWIW, my 2016 GT350R has minimal tramlining on bad roads with a proper alignment and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Good luck with you future purchase !

Other differences of note are the availability of the B&O radio starting in 2019. It's was not available in the 18 R. The 18 350/R also had revised ring and piston packs installed at some mid point of production. The 18 R, ya, it tramlines. Not gonna sugar coat that. Keeps you engaged on the task of driving. You can take steps to mitigate a lot of that by swapping out the CF Wheels and Sport Cup 2's to after market wheels. Or just getting out of the Sport Cup 2's will certainly help too. Personally, I'm running up on the end of life for Sport cup 2's. Leaning on replacing them with a set of MP4S. I'm one of those R owners who do not visit the track on a regular basis tho.

Not sure if you saw it but If you look in the stickies thread there is a list of changes for the 19 model year. It may give you more info.
