I’m becoming disappointed in Circle D.

It was agreed before I sent it down that April 12th was my 10R80 converter ship date, I verified the week prior that the 12th was still on schedule and was told yes. (As I rushed my trans build, planned my install/vacation/race weekend accordingly and then had to cancel last minute)
I had to call in to them again on the 12th to confirm shipment only to find out that it was still not done but would now be sent out early this week.
Well It’s now Thursday night, the 18th and since my 2 emails had no response so I called again and now they are off Friday for the weekend.

If a business is not going to deliver what they say, there needs to be more proactive communication. I shouldn’t have to keep chasing them down for disappointing news.

I should have kept my stock converter, does anyone else build these?
Unfortunetly no.

Chris of Circle D just called me back, apologized for the delays and communication. He said they are making some modifications to the billet stators before the next batches go out and it would be about a week and a half before mine ships. I thanked him for getting back to me, I can plan from here now.

Hey man
What rear end is in the car ?
I have the 3.55 rear and have been 10.0@139-140 with same set up but stock manifolds .
I think my shift strategy needs some help as it shifting in to 7th at 7000 rpm and crossing the traps just under 6000 rpm .
I think that’s killing my ET as it quits accelerating after the 6-7 shift .
I have a “spare “ 3.31rear end I am going to swap in .

I have the 3.15’s. I also run a 28 inch rear tire, you definitely want to stay in 6th under power. That 6 to 7 shift will hurt the trans and hurt ET.

Thanks man . That’s what I also thought .
I did some calculations using the Tremec gear calculator and I think the 3.31 will work quite well with a 28 inch tire ....as long as the tune is not short shifting 6-7
With the 3.31 rear ended and 28 inch tires I would be crossing the traps in 6th @7100 if I trap 140 mph and 7500 rpm @147 mph. View attachment 357638

Interesting, one more question- if you ever think about doing the common next step lower pulley/upper pulley combo? If so you’ll be around 150 and out of gear again.
The 3.15’s give a little more room too.
I’m excited to see your car keep progressing!
It’ll be another couple weeks before I see my converter for the mustang but I have a bunch of other projects I’m elbow deep in right now.. lol

I can’t wait for you to send it when you get your converter back . You think it will help the 60?

Yeah for sure on the 3.15’s having more head room .
I don’t know if will hurt the transmission or not but if 6th gear will hold, at 153 mph it will be at 7800 rpm with the 3.31’s.
Not that I anticipate making that much power or going that fast .

No plans for now either for an OD lower as I am scared of the ATI damper
Over the winter I snapped the crank off my expensive MMR short block in my TT car with the stock size ATI damper . This is the second time for me as I also snapped the crank off the alluminator in my 12 with a 20% damper with a 2.9 whipple .

Ugh, That’s right, you’ve had some bad luck with those...
Honestly, I should’ve left my converter alone. If I leave in first with my 17” drag radials I think it’s going to hurt my 60’. If I leave in second I can’t imagine I’m going to go faster 1.47 again but it will make it more consistent and repeatable coming out of the hole and especially leaving in 2nd on the street, where I spend most of my time.

Circle D came through, they handled business properly by extending a discount as well as next day UPS air shipping of my converter. I was impressed with them for that, ready to wrench and planned on going racing!

BUT- after installing the converter and newly rebuilt transmission, making an easy drive around the block proved that I still had the same 5-6 gear shift flares as before...
It must be in the valve body... I’ll be putting one in tomorrow, hopefully this takes away my problem. Onward and upward!

Thanks for the update !
I can’t wait for you to send it and give us some reviews on the converter/clutches . Hopefully the valve body solves the remaining issue .

I ended up swapping in the 3.31 rear end I had lying around . It’s the iron assembly from out of manual 15 so I figure that was an additional benefit since they are stronger than the aluminum carriers .

Also deleted my cats so I am now running leaded without worrying too much although I know the lead can kill the 02 Sensors . I got a new PBD tune which looks like it has taken care of the torque management intrusions.... but still don’t have that 9 ......because trans is still short shifting 6-7@7000 rpm so it is even slower with the 3.31 rear .
I have told tuner over and over it needs to STAY in 6th gear through the 1/4 as once it shifts in to 7th it drops rpm and I am not making power crossing the traps(with the 3.31 rear is now even worse)
