Maybe they need to move the Detroit Auto Show to June then build up anticipation for the old Fall release to Dealers.

At least we can expect perfect body panel alignment! Eh?

Maybe they're having software problems with all the new features. Like what happened with the F35 Fighter.

I think the other poster hit the nail on the head. F150 is a bigger priority, and rightfully so. Lots of 10speed transmissions to build a supply of, plus the gen3 coyote. Current Mustang sales are still pretty good, so they will ride out the 17 train a little longer while getting Fords true bread and butter, the F150, out to the public sooner. I don't really see much problem with this logic.
F-150 being the priority makes perfect sense, but I'm not sure why there has to be a choice though. Why can't they get both out at the same time? This is Ford we're talking about, not some small company. They have different teams developing each separately. And they should have suppliers that can supply enough parts for both vehicles. If building up enough supply is the issue, why didn't they start producing these parts sooner? They could have scheduled and planned ahead for all of this to avoid any holdups.

They could have still released it early if it's just a # of transmission available and just say "limited availability till X date". I think it's more then just the F150 taking all the 10 speeds. But yes I agree that a company the size of Ford shouldn't be having supply constraints. The other issue they will face is a model that will be on lots for 1.6 months...that's stagnation and the '17 brought nothing new other then a few color changes/package tweaks.

Mountain from a molehill here. Unless somebody has some insider information we really have no idea what is driving the release date. It could be a problem, it could be scheduling with the F-150, it could be a supply problem or it could have been the plan for the last 2 years, and/or it could still change.

Many-many months ago it was already noted that it would be late Q3/Q4 release so it doesn't sound like it was anything that happened between that time that extended the release date because it's pretty spot on with Spartans information.

Regarding the Job 1 date they might be doing the same thing as with the current version in 2014: planned far ahead with enough spare time for contingencies and ending up starting production a number of weeks sooner than planned.

It's probably in response to Ford managing the currently American auto industry. High supply levels are forcing automakers to either offer high incentives to move vehicles or cut production numbers. If Ford was intending to soften its production numbers it would make sense to release in a tighter end of the cycle. It's similar to what's happening in the Oil and Gas industry. To much supply and demand that has fallen flat. American automakers can't continue to pump and dump these vehicles full of incentives if they intend to make it in the changing environment.

S650 ....

Why not wait until the S650 Release? Heck if your going to go all in on a refreshed S550 might as well wait until the S650 comes out and you'll have
more cash on hand. ;)

Just a thought.

The S650 is an unknown, from design, to engines, to basically everything.

The '18 other then HP/TQ figures/pricing is known.

So he knows what he wants & it's worth the investment/wait for him.

True but a late Q3/Q4 would imply end of Sept/Oct if you go by adding in 'late Q3'...otherwise just say Q4. I think the point of Bullitt, myself, etc is that why is Ford hyping up this car, and then releasing it in the dead of winter for most of the USA. I mean Audi just put out their S4/S5 and it's April/May and ready for summer for their latest 2 S sport cars, especially the S5. Just seems like Bullitt said, you could have had a home run here with a late June/early July release.

Fair amount of truth here.

The new auto market is softening, and it's only going to get worse.....

Well the Mustang supply situation hasn't been too bad, at least compared to the Camaro. If Ford is worried about cars sitting and dropping demand they should quit building 2017 way sooner than the end of September like the document shows. Freshly built 2017s showing up on dealer lots in October are gonna have a tough life even with high incentives lol.
