Yea I thought so, thinking worst case scenario potentially a rod knock ? Car drives fine with no power issues or check engine light.
Yep.

I’d guess little end con rod. But that’s based on older tech V-8 sounds, so I’d have somebody local that knows what they‘re doing have a listen. At 93k could be anything.

Yeah not normal, kinda sounds like rod knock. I bet if you rev it the knock gets louder and faster. Sorry to hear. good luck you got to try to return.

2018 Mustang GT PP Auto.. has 93k miles just picked it up after trading in my ecoboost. Is this how mustangs are supposed to sound? I heard about the infamous typewriter tick/ BBQ tick but it doesn’t sound like it when replicating that noise to my car. It almost sounds like the valve lifters need adjustment ? Or could it be a noisy injector/ fuel pump? I’m at a loss here, it’s my first V8 so ant advice is appreciated thank you.

That is very noisy, I'm no expert but it sounds like it could be a bad lifter. I've not heard this in a coyote engine before but have in other engines with a bad lifter and it sounds like it could be a
stuck lifter.

That doesn't sound like the tick or an injector/DI Pump. The DI Pump is on the passenger side. Sounds like hard parts inside the engine. Hopefully you have a warranty, that will be expensive..

It's mind boggling this wasn't noticed before the purchase.
If you're not a car person it's not hard to find a mechanic to do a pre purchase inspection...
^^^ My thoughts exactly - that noise just doesn’t pop out of nowhere…. So was the car bought over State lines and never inspected/driven in person? Because on initial start up I would have walked - very far away from that dealership….

Have you brought it back to them yet? Time is literally ticking - you should have a minimal grace period to return it (hopefully) unless you signed an “as is” document and your Home State laws don’t protect consumers against used car purchases.

They knew what they were selling … and that will be one expensive repair when the engine ventilates the rotating mass through the side of the block….

almost sounds like a loose spark plug, but that would also have to compression bleed past the coil boot as well and would be easily noticible with your hand by it.

Hey guys, just want to give a quick update. I want to clarify I didn’t actually trade in my ecoboost but purchased this car directly from a dealer auction after selling it. The reason I didn’t go in person first is because it was purchased across the country. Thankfully, because the title still hasn’t come in yet after a month I’ve started the arbitration process for title absent and should be getting my money back, minus the shipping fees. I could keep it and try to diagnose it, but after reading everyone’s comments I think it’s best to return. Thank you everyone for your feedback

Nobody mentioned an exhaust leak, which was my first thought. Can you get in there and see if one of the studs holding the header to the cylinder head is broken or missing?

I wondered the same thing when I heard it too.

Wow I’m so thankful I dodged a bullet there. Was it rod knock then on your car?

Not sure yet. Dropped it off on Aug 16th. Waiting for them to get approved by Ext. Warranty so they can pull the motor apart.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like a rod knock which I have heard in the past on older engines that have a heavier deep knocking sound. This sounded like a light metallic ticking which was usually loudest from the top of the valve covers like the old Chevy OHV engines with worn rocker arms or pushrods.
