I'd say it's time for a more cheeky email telling them that you know about the commercial recordings and are wondering what's up with that :D
I'm now hunting the owner of the '68 Fastback. I know its appeared at events before (with the Charger) and I'm pretty sure the owner is known on the UK Owners Club......so I've just posted there, too. Lets see what we can find out :D

Oh, and Model Years really screw things up here.

We assume is should be an '18MY to tie in with the fact Lt Bullitt's car was a '68MY......but to tie it in with the 50th anniversary of the film means it would be celebrating in October 2018......and by then, I assume the '19MY Mustangs will have been on the streets for a few months.

Perhaps it could just be a very late '18MY introduction, much like Ford squeezed a handful of GT350s into the '15MY.

Or Ford could be yanking our chains and laughing at all this speculation :ford:

Personally, I think Ford would want to sync up with the car's year (MY1968) instead of the theatrical release, which makes it a 2019MY which some could construe means it's a year late in some ways.

For the 2008 models, some did run over into 2009 but I believe that was simply because they didn't sell as many as they planned to, so the remaining vehicles planned to be produced ended up getting turned into 2009 models. Also, the 2008s were at the end of 2008 production, IIRC with deliveries beginning spring 2008. Maybe with the usual delays in getting cars overseas, international cars have a greater chance of possibly being 2019 models?

I wonder what date Lt Bullitt bought his 68. May very well have been as early as November 1967. So to truly celebrate the 50th anniversary of this legendary purchase Ford better get their asses into gear and start building them. :headbang:

Haha well if we really want to get technical, the chase scenes were filmed in April of 1968, so there's plenty of dates to choose from next year. :p

Somehow the guy with the classic Bullitt looked familiar to me. I finally found out why. This very same combo of cars was used for a chase video that was recorded at Silverstone in 2014:

The 2008s, as you noted, were late on the production cycle. The total production number, along with that timing, is why I believe they made it over into the 2009 year.

Given a Detroit 2018 introduction (I plan to be there too), and the movie's actual anniversary being in October, it could very well be a 2019 model year car. Model year 2018 is just too perfect to pass up though, in my book!

Yeah if they take as long to come out as the regular 18s then October on-sale date is possible. I just figured it wouldn't be as long of a wait since it's probably not a big change, certainly not as big as the refresh. I'm still guessing it'll come in waves. Job 1 for regular 18s, Job 2 for PP2, Job 3 for Bullitt.

Personally for me the most appealing factor of the Bullitt is the color. I just wish I could get it on a PP2 GT or a G350.

Then there would be no Bullitt. ;)

Also, didn't see this yesterday but there's a teaser video attached on Ponysite.de which teases a fan-made 2018 Bullitt rendering and more shots from the commercial shoot. The video can be seen here:

The description says "Steve testdrives a 68 Bullitt Mustang against a 68 Charger R/T at the Dunsfold Aerodrome, then heading to a nearby Ford dealer to secure a comparison testdrive with the 6G version. Thanks to David Redhead, Chris How and Hendy Ford/Horsham and Ford of course."

Also, the original article on Ponysite.de says the commercial will mimic the scenes at Cotati Raceway from the "making of Bullitt" featurette, so expect it to look similar to 0:20-1:38 in that video:
