Does anyone know what will be backwards compatible from the 2018+ model?

Specifically the gauge cluster? Really digging the LCD screen.

I am sure someone will find a way to retrofit the lcd display into the 15-17 models because the dimensions are nearly the same if not identical from the looks of it. The only issue I see is the programming it to work given that the new engine has a different redline and what not so the gauge wouldn't be exactly accurate.

There are already cars for show and test drive at dealerships. It wouldn't be uncommon for a dealership or official of some kind to give information like this, if they were privvied of it.

Maybe the redline can be adjusted through programming?

If I understand this correctly, all of that, the red line and RPM in general and such... is measured through sensors. So as long as the sensors read apporopriately, the display should reflect appropriately?

My guess is if people can swap an MKZ cluster into a Fusion you'll be able to swap a 2018 cluster into a 2017 or older:

Though it's possible that programming will be required, as was needed for the MKZ to Fusion swap.

2018 Mustang GT 12" digital instrument cluster swap for 2016 Models???

Hello there,
The new 2018 Mustang came out with a ton of new features, among which MagneRide, active-exhaust and the huge 12" display gauge are the most eye-catching.
Anybody any ideas the 12" display gauge can be swapped in to older 2016-2017 model? What is the likelihood of doing this successfullly? And any amount of programming needed? Or just simple plug & play with the correct harness?
Really LOVE that tech, looks fancy.
Anyone interested doing so or knows how to are welcome to reply!!!

Thank you!

Later I'll post what the 12" display gauge looks like from Ford.com

there is probably 0% chance of that happening. it probably requires a lot of backend stuff not just a simple swap.

Ive also never heard of it happening before so i wouldnt get your hopes up

I've thought about this as well. But then I was thinking that if the digital gauge is just a huge screen, then it will need a lot of backend stuff to process and display the information. But if Ford is trying to save money and is using all the same or similar ECU or CPM module to collect the information and the digital gauge is just a way to receive those information and display them? It's just a signal processor, which maybe built-in to the display module.
(I don't have much knowledge about how our gauge works yet.)

ford.com say optional

ford.com says optional... so i'm guessing all models it'll be an upgrade except for premium. So i'm thinking it might be plug n play with the standard 15-17 cluster. i've never rip'd apart a dash, maybe someone who has can chime in here, does it come out as one piece? if so i'm 99% sure it'll be plug n play

The new dash is hideous..I cant see why anyone would want that over the
badass retro stuff we have in the 15-17s .

Less is more !
