Hey Guys,
I made this video .
I tested my car with 2 different Intake.
OEM airbox vs JLT.

I usually do LAPTIME videos so I apologize if the flow is not optimal.

Lots of data.
PLEASE DONT FOCUS ON PEEAK WHP BUT MORE ON THE DELTA ( DIFFERENCE) BETWEEN BASE AND FINAL RESULTS.
SEQUENCE OF TESTS
1. TUNE 96 OCT
2.TUNE96 +JLT
3.TUNE +JLT+ LIGHT WHEELS
4.TUNE +JLT +LIGHT WHEELS+ HOOD CLOSED

I hope you like it.

So realistically, the JLT with hood closed made less horsepower than it did with hood open, but add 5hp for the lighter wheels and you get maybe 5hp with the JLT intake over stock (although with vents cut into hood) I'd say the JLT with hood closed is worth 0-5hp max. That may change when you're in a dynamic situation versus the static on the dyno.

Thx for the info.
That large hood vent just might end up pulling some air out of the open element filter at speed. Closed hoods reveal the nasty truth of near zero power gains when chasing horse power with open CAI systems.
Honestly, Steeda's closed box is still your best option over OEM closed.

NO.
461WHP WAS 96OCT+JLT
462 WAS LIGHT WHEELS DURING THE TESTS UP AND DOWN. 461 JLT+normal wheels..so not much difference.
so i can say JLT is 10 whp. ( in theory 11 but let's say 10)
HOWEVER..
talking with many more expert and race oriented guys,
the hood up simulate way better what we are doing..we have an engine generating horsepower and rpm to reach 170mph just brething some fun air in the front...it was not enough.
so apparently the problem is HEAT,ACCORDING to them. heat that at 150+mph would have been dissipated.

well 10whp is

well 10whp is a good gain.hopwever as explained above..the test with closed hood is not simulating the wind you will have at 150mph ..but you are generating the heat necessary to run the car at that speed. so it is unbalanced.
i might try the steeda anyway.
and also see if it is possible some kind of cover.

I wonder if stock intake with K&N or AFE magnum flow filter would add the 10 hp. Could make for an interesting comparison video.

Even with the hood closed he has a huge hole in it right above the filter. These results will not be typical of everyone else running a stock hood. Next...

It's funny you did this. I was wondering if adding a higher octane fuel to the stock Ford tune would make a difference and what a higher octane aftermarket tune would do.

I personally think that hole was the reason why I lost power .that vents are acting like a siphon IMO. there is a 40mph fan in the front . I think the air was push out to the vents without being capture.
other suggested the reason i loose power with hoods down is.
heat. Your trapping heat around the box and not enough airflow getting to the filter. Again, remember the car is going 150 MPH + ( with all the heat generated to get the car at those speed )and you do not have that amount of air flowing around the entire car. Air at that speed is pushing all around the engine compartment keeping temps down. This is why hood down is not the right way to test parts.

Do you know how much weight difference the new wheels and tires were?

i do. ( i mentioned t in the video too )
11lbs lighter each.
by the way in TT2 i will fight against shelby 350R GT3 and Bmw.. so all lighter than my fatty 10speed.
every Hp more is important. I also will reduce the weight of the car.
but still.. soooo heavy!

Great post! I know it's far more about the performance and track capability, but your car also looks really solid the was it's setup
