I looked for my category and did not find it but selected the nearest one. I have an 18 and the rattling developed after about 2K miles before the first oil change. I changed my oil once at 3500, rattle remains there.
I also have the BBQ tick. I did notice that when there was recent cool weather here 45-50 degrees- (which is cool for South Florida but probably so warm for everyone else though) the BBQ tick was less prominent or not there. The rattle is always there though- especially when cold. When it fully warms up, no so much. So thicker oil, less BBQ tick?
Rattle at light throttle 2 to 3 k rpm from day one. First oil change at 5500 miles, second at 11,000.
Tuned w cai, longtubes at 4250 miles. Also put in 4.09 gears, mgw race spec, it's a manual pp1 car. Would run e85 if readily available. Currently running 93. Now 12,200 miles.
No problems, no oil consumption. Autocross and strip when I can.
Stop worrying and send them.
Stock 16K autocrosser with lots of over 7K revs. Automatic. No apparent rattle or other "what is that noise" when cold or hot. Mobil 1 5W-20 synth at 2200 miles (first change) and Valvoline 5W-20 synth at 10,600 miles.
While this topic may be beaten to death, there’s no clarity. I appreciate the attempts to get more clarity since since the data we are getting from dealers, which is Ford’s voice to the consumer, is horribly inconsistent. There’s a guy on the 18/19 FB group who is tossing engines in cars left and right and then dudes who have dealers putting it in writing that Ford says these are all normal noises.
My option wasn't up there either but I picked the closest. I'm at 6000 miles no tick, no rattles, no noise around 4k, nothing. I've only changed my oil once at 4500 miles. I asked the dealer if I should get the first oil change sooner like other manufacturers have suggested in the past and they said nope just bring in in before 5000 miles.
It's probably going to be like the "slack" in the F-150 drivelines of the last gen trucks. I ask the dealer, and he said "They do that". And 37K miles later mine still does without any problems. These 5.0's have a 5 yr/60K warranty, and if it is a problem someone will know as time goes on. IMHO
