I have a 2016 track pack with 2300 miles on it. Excellent condition. Kelley blue book pits top of trade in value at $52.7k

Trading towards an R.

Offsetting tax vs private party sale and overall value.

Thoughts?

I expressed 52k or not trading it.

Pros/cons

Is 52k a no brainer?

You would have to do the calculations. In my state you only pay tax on the difference which meant for me I would have had to sell my car for 2k more private party to come out the same...so it really depends on if/when you have a private party buyer and the hassle of trying to sell on your own what is all that "worth" to you.

I don't think it's a no-brainer. I think you could get 2 or 3 thousand more in a private party sale. KBB is in the pocket of dealers I think so I'd say their values are BS. There are always trade-offs in life, yeah? It depends on if you want to trade time & hassle for that $2/3k. (IMHO)

This is a super simple one.

Comp the trade value against what similar cars are selling for/posted for sale for in your area. If it appears private party vehicles are selling for more than the tax offset, do that. If not, trade it. Else, do nothing.

while I sort of agree, it can also be misleading because its based on asking prices in your area not necessarily what they are selling for

Unfortunately at most dealers KBB does not = AVC. Good luck in negotiations and $52K with tax credits in Tx would be another $3250 for $55250 net.

Hopefully Fla offers the same tax credit on trade difference...if so no brainer IMO.

Just can't get enuff!
State of FL allows tax credit... I'd probably just trade-it in myself as long as the TIV is over 50k, obviously and preferably at least 52k. I don't have the time & patience to deal with private party tire kickers who'll also lowball especially in FL.

I was low balled on my trade. With your trade in offer and what my tax savings would have been, I would have still been better off selling privately. Sold privately for $54K about a month or so ago.

More importantly, congrats on the R!

Dealers do not use Kelly lol the use NADA. You would be hard pressed to get a great trade in price. Better off selling private or take the 52. If! they offer it. Good luck!

Obviously there are a lot of factors to consider with respect to motivation, cash flow, state tax relief, garage space, car insurance, etc. but if you can I would hold out for ~$53,000 especially if you are paying an ADM on your new R model.

I would like to think that your dealership will work with you on your trade based on the fact (an assumption on my part) that you are paying an ADM for your R.

It's frustrating enough to take a hit on the purchase price of your R but for your dealership to ask you to also take a hit on your trade as well does not make much sense to me.

Hopefully your dealership will work with you and that both parties end up with a positive hand shake deal when it is all over!

Good Luck!!
