It’s also worth mentioning the Gen 1 engines were different in regards to the R models versus non R models (cam phasers, etc) so failure rate comparison to then Gen 2 is problematic. I’ve just crossed 20,000 miles in my 2016 GT350R and fingers crossed, all is well 😄

As previous stated, it really comes down to personal preference and usage. Do you need back seat ? Do you want heated/cooled seats ? Planning on track usage ? Do you want Carbon Fiber wheels ? I would start with that first when making a decision.
Add Do you want to drive long distance?

I have found that with the carbon fiber wheels the ride is smoother on the highway and response at the steering wheel is quicker making the vehicle feel like it’s 500 or more pounds less .the carbon fiber wing with more downforce helps . these are all engineered especially for performance and you are purchasing a performance vehicle and this is the pinnacle of what they made in the GT 350 found in the R .as spoken before resale will always be higher and having the best makes me feel a higher level of accomplishment especially the understanding of what Ford racing and Billy Johnson did to create the special GT 350. Thank you again for all the help. Unfortunately the 2016 R fell through.

I’m now looking at 2018 R vs a 2019 base. Both similar mileage and care. The R is about $9k more.

I’m leaning to the R based on the above comments but after reading this forums list of improvements for the 2019 my thought is that car might be smarter, bit more tech and hopefully less problems although I realize they aren’t without problems. I also understand there is a little more room in the 2019 recaros which would suite me fine given my size.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have got about 25k miles on my 2016 GT350. Uses no oil. I am one of those that really does not think there are any reliability issues with the 2016 versus newer ones.

2018 GT350R W 16k miles in Kona blue at Murray Motors Chevrolet is your Selinsgrove PA dealership! A short drive from Williamsport for 67900 , Looks like they put new Michelin pilot sport 4S tires on it so maybe they could take those off and charge you the extra for the sport cup twos? A purchasable warranty should be available for peace of mind because it’s at a franchise Chevrolet store,
Sometimes finding an out of position specialized vehicle works best as we purchased our Lexus at a Subaru store and purchased it for way less.

a wise old Voodoo owner told me, when I was looking for mine (and the straight 350 was a better deal financially) “If you want an R but buy a 350, you will always wish you had bought an R”

I have a 2016 R for sale. Shadow black with stripes. 18,xxx miles. Still retains factory warranty.
has a new gen2 engine with about 35 miles on it.

$69,500 with CF wheels.
‘I will sell for lower 60’s if someone wants the 6GR wheels instead.

Hi all back again. Found a 2017 with a gen 2 replacement. I still can’t find any data on whether the gen 2 is more reliable or less prone to failure. Are there any stats on this?

If you this worried about the motor failure. I would probably look at the mach 1. It is always going to be in the back of your head. I have had a 16,18 and 20 GT350. The 16 had a motor replacement and the other two were great. The 19's and 20's are worth the extra coin for all the updates. I am debating on going from a gt500 back to a 350 because i miss rowing gears and the sound. I am putting a budget aside for engine replacement in the future when the extended warranty runs out.

I have a 2021 Roush stage 3 6 speed which is bullet proof but looking at something different with a manual as well. Maybe just add warranty for piece of mind.

I have a 2019 with the factory Gen 2 R engine with 49,9982.5 miles on it as I type.............. no worries from this lone unpaid VooDoo engine testing statistician.
I can give any VooDoo nay sayers almost 50,000 reasons why their nay say is WRONG...!!!
