So I have the lame Sync 2 no Nav. It sucks. I tried the 10.3" Tesla Android unit but it doesn't work on Premium cars.

Does anybody know any options to upgrade a Premium car with factory amp? I'm thinking of Sync 3 upgrade, but hard to find one and install seems tricky. I just want an 8-10" touch screen with Nav, and preferably Android. I want to be able to fun apps.

Are their any options out there? Also, does anybody know of an 8" faceplate that works with Premium? All the ones I've seen only have the 3 buttons on the bottom but Premium has 4 toggles.

Thanks

late reply and noticed the only reply. so I have a premium model with MFT/sync 2 and have been looking to upgrade myself mainly because I want android auto. so for premium owners who dont want to fork over $1500 + for sync 3 system there is another option. you can get scoche double din dash kit or Metra dash kit. they are necessary to retaining the climate functions on premium models unfortunately . they house up to 7inch screen you can use and double din stereo with up to 7 inches I believe. here are the links - for metra : https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_129201_Metra-99-5840CH.html
Scosche: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142FD...&awnw=g&awcr=189216892540&awdv=c&awug=9007743

hope this helps

The Scosche kit you posted only has the faceplate toggles for non premium cars. Premium cars have 4 toggles, this only has the 3 toggle option. So that is no bueno.

So here is my question, if you look at the faceplates where the toggles are, it is completely open. If that is how it should be, then we should just be able to cut the faceplates like this.

There is an 8" Android option I believe, but not sure if it will fit this. If I could get that for $500, then this for $460, I would consider. I just wish Tesla would make the change for the Premium. I can't see that it would be that hard. But either way, I would also want a stereo with the preAmp outputs so I can more easily wire in my interior and sub amps.

Metra makes a kit for the premium cars http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-5840CH
Make sure you get the one for the 8inch screen because they make one for the base stereo also... Lots of great head units with Android auto out there. I went with the Kenwood 7704s because it plays flac without down converting it to 16bit 44k. Also I don't need a cd player. Pioneer makes some really nice head units as well but they down convert 24bit flac to 16bit 44k.

I looked at all my optionsfor my 2015 Mustang GT Vert premium and ultimately decided the Sync3 upgrade was the way to go. I bought my unit programmed with my VIN and install was actually a breeze. Pricey for sure but it is a direct plugin and you retain all of your features. For Apple Carplay it does require a new center console hub in order to work but that is an easy install as well. Just requires taping two wires with a new connector and the hub itself.

Really interested in a step by step for your conversion. TIA

I will link you to the info I used in order to do the install (One I had the equipment.

First is a video from OEMRadio (Jesse) who sells the Sync 3 upgrades (or used to, I don't think he is on here very much anymore). The video details a Base upgrade to Sync 3 but it is pretty identical to MFT upgrade to Sync 3. The only difference is you do not need the wiring harness (the Premium is plug and play with Sync 3) but you will need the brackets off of your MFT module.

For the Hub Replacement I used the following walkthrough from a user. It is for a fusion but it is exactly the same. The only difference is I used a Single port USB hub to keep my front USB port active. I will edit this post later with the part number I used. The pigtail adapter in the walkthrough is the needed part.
