Hi,

Just finished up retrofitting 2016 OEM heat extractor/blinkers onto my 2015 and figured I show those of you who want this how I did it for $183.25 using 99% OEM Ford pars.

This is for the people like myself who want them. For those of you who don't like them feel free to move on and not leave negative comments :)

Parts list:

1. 2016 OEM take off heat extractors with blinkers bought from Roush take offs via eBay $149.99 shipped.

2. 2016 OEM under hood wiring harness bought from Tasca Parts $23.27 shipped. Part # GR3Z-13A840-A

3. Roughly 15' wire, wire loom and connectors $9.99

First I swapped my 2015 magnetic heat extractors for the 2016 which is self explanatory. The only modification needed was to notch out the center of the plastic mounting brace that is used to "sandwich" the assembly to the hood and has the two 9mm nuts holding it in place. Just had to make room for the plug assembly that is now needed to connect the blinkers.

Then I snapped in the 2106 OEM under hood wiring harness. This comes completely assembled and has the snap on clips already attached exactly where they need to be to attach to the hood.

I then took a length of speaker wire and attached the ground to one of the three ground bolts on the passengers side of the radiator support behind the passenger headlight and used the other side of the wire to tap into the blinker signal wire from the blinker plug on the passenger blinker.

I ran my new harness under the radiator support and then along the drivers side wheel well to the area just behind the driver side 5.0 emblem. This is where the factory under hood harness ends.

Then I used a single wire from the drivers side blinker plug and added it to the loom assembly I ran from the passengers side.

I clipped the plug off the factory under hood harness and connected my new self made harness to it.

And that's all there is to it. For a total of $183.25 I now have the OEM hood extractor/blinkers like the 2016 models have.

I have been driving mustangs my whole life and have had 13 different models. My first was a 1967 which had the hood blinkers and I absolutely loved them. It was important to me to retrofit these because they remind me of the fun I had in my 1967 mustang when I was 15.

I hope this will help anyone who may want these to do the mod, it's really pretty easy and very rewarding.

Great write up. Thanks!

? the harness that you bought doesn't allow you to just plug into the stock harness?

Unfortunately no, the 2015 main wiring harness was not made with the connection needed. Making my own and attaching to the hood harness was pretty easy though.

Did the heat extractors you get already have the blinker in it? I can't seem to find them on eBay.

Yes, Roush is selling them. Try searching for 2015 heat extractors with blinkers you should find them.

Nice write up! I may consider selling my '16 Ruby Red extractors one day if this becomes a popular mod.

Sorry, I just removed the link. I think I will just save the blinkers for the day I sell the car. GF really liked them. :(

Evil Minion came over Saturday with the intent of putting my 2016 hood blinker on his 2015 Stang. The plastic piece on the underside is different between the two vents. The piece is heat welded in place, so they are not interchangeable.

The plastic piece design was changed so that the blinker both snaps into place, and is then secured by two small Torx screws. To retrofit the blinkers into 2015 vents would require some Dremel work, followed by RTV or Gorilla glue.

Ultimately we decided that going the 2016 Roush vent take-off via eBay was the best path.

Perhaps Evil Minion will post some photos that he took with his phone.

A follow up and an FYI for others, the 2015 vents are NOT compatible with just swapping the light itself over. You must have 2016 vents as well, as the black mesh in the vents is welded to the entire vent body itself, not a separate piece.

Pics for reference:

2016 (hard to see the 3 little clips)

Jaime - nice write-up!! I love these, too. Not sure I have the talent or patience to do what you did :(.
