I like to disassemble things.
SSM 50578 - 2020-2021 Mustang GT500 - Lack Of Power And/Or An Illuminated MIL With DTC P1228 - Supercharger Drive Assembly Lower Level Service Part

Some 2020-2021 Mustang GT500 vehicles may exhibit a lack of power and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P1228. This may be due to the one-way clutch on the supercharger drive assembly. With the supercharger belt removed, a failed one-way clutch within the pulley rotates freely in both directions. The supercharger drive assembly KR3Z-6J022-B is now available as a lower level service part, separate from the supercharger assembly. Refer to the parts catalog and Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-12D for installation.

Mine did it too (in Dec at COTA):

Felt like it went into limp mode for a while, but recovered. Didnā€™t see any codes. Still had boost pressure.
Blew black gunk out the front and yellow goo out the back.
They replaced the whole drive assembly. I never found the front cover piece.
I wanted to feel if the clutch was working but the guys told me that Ford called for the part ASAP so I didnā€™t get to see it removed. Repaired in Jan 2022.
Mine happened on a cold day in Dec with ambients around 40*. Wonder if itā€™s temp relatedā€¦

The car I saw was at eagles canyon in May 2021. So it was hot and happened on the first day the second or third session. It was his first event in the car.

Mine was in the first couple of sessions on the first day. Froze overnight. 42* when it happened. I warmed the car up for 10 minutes before the session.
The rest of the event went fine.

Except for the limp-mode feeling for a 1/2 lap or so, I didnā€™t even notice it until a guy asked to see my engine between sessions. When I opened the hood, I noticed what looked like cobwebs around that pulley. Thought that was strange until I noticed the pulley cover was missing and when I wiped away the cobwebs, they felt like crystallized grease. Very weird.

I asked my dealer to order the part and when it came in, took a couple of hours to install. All under warranty as that part is nearly $500 (plus labor).
And yes, felt like limp mode for a while.

In my case, no codes when it happened nor issues since the part was replaced.
Good luck with your repair.

Was your car tuned by the previous owner?
I don't know but it's been back to the dealer twice with an ac leak then an oil line blew. They didn't say a word about it. Funny thing is when I got it back the second time I think (pure guessing) they reflashed the car. It got way slower and sluggish.

Did you fix it
No. I knew I was going to pulley it anyway and now my 2.8 pulley is waiting for me in my garage. Just gathering my parts before I install. I still get boost but I suspect it is not consistent full boost.
