Hello all. I own a procharged ‘16 gt and I have reached the point where the stock PP1 wheel and tire setup is no longer effective in delivering power to the ground. As I love the look of the stock wheels, I was thinking I would buy replica wheels, except wider, to accommodate at minimum a 305/35/19 tire. The stock size is 19x9.5. Ideally, I was thinking these wheels from Voxx which are only available in 20x10. I was hoping to be able to use my stock front wheels. Will 20” rear wheels look disproportionate to the 19” fronts, what is the biggest tire I could realistically run on these wheels with no modification? And in addition, will this cause any driveability issues? This is my first time buying aftermarket wheels/tires. So please excuse any ignorance.

why not go 18x11 and get some actual meat? 305 on a 10 is not going to work.

I’ve read that the widest possible that you can go in the back with no modification is a 305 on a 10? Is this false?

most 305s tires are too wide for a 10" wheel. You'd like an 11" wide wheel.

Typically, you'll run a smaller sidewall with a tire mounted on a larger diameter wheel to keep the same rolling diameter. If you want to go with a larger diameter tire (IDK why), a larger diameter wheel isn't needed.

Can you do a 19" front and a 20" rear and run a slighter larger diameter tire on the rear, yes you could. Will that help with traction, not really. What will help with traction is picking a grippy tire. Wider isn't as much help as tire compound. Wider doesn't hurt but its not a large difference.

Just because it is possible doesn't mean it works well. Properly supported tires work better in straight line and cornering.

a 'tall' sidewall tire will flex and let the tire 'twist' when sudden torque is applied and reduces shocks which cause tread loose from the road. Relatively speaking. If you have excess power the answer is HOT tires (at correct temp for compound) and reasonably wide. "Sticky" compound tires below their operating temp are useless if not significantly worse than random Chinese all-seasons.

You have way too much motor for any tire driven on public streets. Get used to it.

My car came with 305s on the front 10.5" wheels. The back are 11s with 305s. If I remember correctly the nitto 555G2 305 will work on a 10 to 12" wheel. All mine are 19s.

Shorter sidewalls will give you slightly better response but not necessarily better handling.

"work" or "fit" needs to be characterized. Some 305s will fit a 10" wheel, but not well, and definitely not in a way for optimum performance. You gotta pay to play properly, and this includes the right width wheels.

So you're saying my 28x11.5x17 tire on a 17x9.5 wheel doesn't work ?

It would work better on a 10.5 or 11". With very tall sidewalls you can get away with a wider tire on the wheel, but when you get into the 30 or 35 aspect tires, proper fit is crucial for good performance and tire life.

But MT recommends a 9.5" wheel as ideal. Proper tool for the job at hand so to speak. Either way, the OP isn't gonna get the straightline performance he's looking for with a 30/35 series tire. But since he asked, a Nitto NT555 G2 305/35R20 is as good as it's gonna get for him.

I'm pretty surprised by that.

I run a 305 on a 10.5” rim and have tons of clearance. I know guys running 315s too with plenty of room. Just need the right offset for the wheels.

As for 19” vs 20” rims, my old Mustang had 2013 GT500 wheels that were 19” in front and 20” in back. Ran a 285/35 on both and the stance was fantastic looking. It was a S197 though.
