If he has a bigger turbo and supporting mods, you might be in for a surprise.

Keep us updated.

I would definitely find out if he is going to be running stock tires(whatever it has for the street), and whatever else you can of course. If someone has gone to the trouble of upgrading the turbo, it makes me think he is downplaying what he has.

edit: sorry just realized you were talking about role racing... so tire isn’t as big of a deal... still matters if he has insane power but not as much as from a dig of course.

Back in the early 90’s there was a grand national that pretty much ruled the streets in my home town. It was a 10.5 car.. full cage, upgrades by Texas Turbo, etc. As others have stated those cars have a lot of potential and can be deceptively built to easily be a sleeper(not a true sleeper but you know what I mean )
Texas Turbo! Good memories right there. Gene Deputy did some work on my old Mustang back in the 90’s.

I helped my buddy build his 1987 T-type back in the day. That car was a beast.

60 or 70mm something mm turbo, 3" stainless exhaust, custom cam, forged pistons and rods, ported heads and intake, FMIC, 7th injector, built trans and a whole bunch of other stuff I can't remember. He beat a few of the guys who were real Douche bags so bad no one else wanted to race him. He sold it and the guy who bought it ran it at the track and got 10.0s with DOT slicks. This was back in the days when 12s were fast.

Edit: that car is one of the reasons I want to turbo my Stang.

#breakingnews just watched a kIA SUV win one outta three against a 87 GN. Both were slow AF.

Unless he's pushing a lot more boost through that so called 'bigger turbo', you should eat it for lunch. Plus, they don't have much of a tire on them if its stock.
those cars had a lot of turbo lag, stock. The upgraded bigger turbos spool quicker, yes, but tires aren’t as important, a normal sized radial is usually all the need.

For the people saying the GNX's 13.4 was "fast for back then" remember it wasn't till 2001 Ford managed to start doing faster than 13.4. The GNX was fast for a stock car from 87- the early 00's. It was competitive to almost any stock American car that wasn't a Viper, Z06 Terminator or GT500. All of which have much larger engines and in 2 cases a super charger. Till the new 5.0 came out to replace the 4.6 it was a solid race for any NA 4v/3v Mustang.

Wildhorse you brought it back to life. I often thought about the outcome but since the OP never updated, just figured it never happened.

It never happened. My down the street neighbor that owns the car is a nice guy with a really clean GN.

I asked him many times via text and the answer was always "sure". After about the 5th time, over a period of several months, I realized he wasn't really interested.

I recently supercharged my GT, so I doubt it would be a fair race now.

I would have loved to see how a new tech NA mustang would have faired with high tech of the past.
