So in trying to realign my hood after installing hood struts, one of the 4 hood studs snapped. I stopped by an auto body shop and they said that since the hood is aluminum they won't touch it to weld in a new stud. He said that the welding will most likely ruin the paint and it would have to be repainted as well. So wondering outside of getting a new hood, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Wow, you must have applied too much torque. No good answer but you could try the next body shop.

Sounds like have them weld it and if paint messes us, paint time. That or a new hood.

Find a shop that specializes in aluminum repairs/welding. They are correct it may damage the refinish and will need to be handled accordingly.

It shouldn’t matter tbh, the paint inside doesn’t matter since no one sees it.

Depending on location of the stud, the heat from welding could cause exterior damage. Just like welding in a rear body panel, sometimes the quarters get scorched a bit. This I’ve seen a few times in body shops I work with.

Not sure what it looks like but maybe carefully grind the stud flush with the hood, drill and tap it and use a bolt.
