I was under the impression that we get directions from google maps using android auto in the little LCD in the analog instrument cluster.

I have tried both android auto and carplay (latest versions) and there's nothing showing up..

Is that only for digital cluster?

I'll try out the beta later and see if this does anything for me

Excellent! Looking forward to hearing if it works - if it doesn't, I suppose that may mean it's only for the digital cluster, but don't non-digital dashes get nav info? (from the OEM nav system).

After I upgraded to the Sync 3 beta version 3.4, Google maps' turn by turn directions now shows up on the center of the digital cluster using Android Auto. However, it doesn't show up using Apple CarPlay.

See above, the Beta for iOS 13.4 indicates functionality long those lines, I think you're not seeing it because it's not in the current (13.3.1) version of iOS (and the related CarPlay version).

Thanks! I can't wait until iOS 13.4 is released.

I’ve tried upgrading my sync 3... but it’s only on 2.2.
I’ve tried twice and the usb goes through installation and updating....but still show 2.2??
Does the upgrade not work on 2.2?

You cannot update from 2.2 to 3.4. You have to update to 3.0 first. Is this what you are doing? If yes, did you download the 3.0 files from the Ford Owner site?

Is there any major difference to sync 3.4 apart from the different look? It seems quite risky and a lot of work to upgrade to it looking at that page. Any chance Ford will offer it, or is this something that only the 2020+ vehicles will have?
I did the update today. I spent a lot of time reading and rereading. In the end, it was incredibly simple and I believe that since the tools provided are actually Ford tools that the risk is very minimal. The 2018 maps are great, phone seems to connect faster, menu navigation is smoother and Android Auto Navigation now shows up in the dash cluster. So, I've got a fresh look, and a better performing UI. Cheapest upgrade out there!

Different thing. OP has the Sync 3 system. Version is 2.2. The Hellhorse upgrade is for the old Microsoft Sync 2 system.
Really? Sync 3 started off with a version less than 3.0? That is hilarious. I figured the first version would have looked like:

SYNC 3, Version 3.0
Build 14101_PRODUCT

or something like that.

That's kind of like Windows 10 being version 9.1, LOL.

I hear you. Keep in mind, 1. the System name, Sync 3. 2. the version #, 2.2. 3. the build #, 16280.

That’s exactly what I’ve got...your picture! Sync 3 but version 2.2! I take it, I can’t upgrade then. If I can’t for free, then I ok with that. I’m not spending £100s to upgrade.

Sorry I did not notice that you’re from the other side of the pond. Sync updates are free here, not sure about your side. You should be able to update to 3.0 without issue. You will need to download the files from your Ford owner site. Once you have 3.0 you can do the unofficial update to 3.4.
