I just got the car back from brenspeed in Indiana. They did a motor and transmission swap. I just noticed that every time I turn the steering wheel there’s the squeak here is a video. Any idea what this is?

Is the noise inside the car or is it coming from outside? If outside, is your steering shaft contacting something in the engine compartment?
If the noise is outside: Jack the front of the car up (both front wheels off the Ground), and with the engine OFF, turn your steering wheel to see if you still have the noise.
And I'd call Brenspeed to see if they have any ideas...

Thank you for your input. I emailed brespeed and I haven’t gotten a reply. I had to go in the car and double check where the sound is coming from. The sound is coming from inside the car like behind the steering wheel. It’s kind of weird I can’t really pinpoint it. At first I thought maybe I need a power steering fluid but the car doesn’t even take any. Lol

My mechanic thinks it’s front control arms

I was told that it could be the steering shaft rubbing the longtubes

Do you see any score marks on the LT?

Does your front struts or the back of the front tire/rim have any witness/rub marks?

@Cobra Jet Can I see any of that from looking under the hood or do I have to lift the car and go under ?

Probably have to lift it. I know after being driven insane by this, I would definitely get under the car and look everywhere there are moving parts when you turn the wheel. This includes steering shaft and your front suspension. You mentioned the sound is coming from inside the car (steering wheel area). Are you sure there's no noise outside the car? I suppose if it's confined to the inside, then jacking the car may be a waste of time. I'd have my mechanic check to see if the steering wheel itself, or your column cover, or any bearings in the steering shaft are rubbing against each other causing the noise. I think first order of business is definitely confirming there is no noise outside the car.

@RacingRoger Thanks. I posted videos on here in this thread. You can hear the sound inside and outside the car

You should be able to see the steering shaft coming out of the firewall and the header on the driver side. Peer down with a bright LED light and see how close the steering shaft is to the header tube. Most likely that could be the issue.

As for checking the front wheels/struts for witness marks, you can do this with the car on the ground. Turn your wheels as far as they can go one way, then look behind the wheel at the tire and at the strut casing. Do the same for the opposite side of the car.

@Cobra Jet

Thank you! It’s 18 degrees but I’ll definitely do that when I get off work and record it. Appreciate it! Have a great day!
