I had the Performance Automatic deep aluminum trans part #PA68407 on my 2016 and the drain plug leaked even with thread sealer. It cost $375. ContactEd manufacture and their customer service sucked. So I removed it and put a stock one on with drain plug which was great because it made trans fluid changes every 30k super easy and the drain plug never leaked https://www.americanmuscle.com/mustang-transmission-oil-pan-drain-plug-265-854.html

Iā€™m in the same situation as you. Performs good most of the time but has its quirks sometimes. I made an appointment and spoke with the transmission specialist at my dealer. He said donā€™t mess with it if it isnā€™t broke. You may cause more problems than itā€™s worth. So Iā€™m not going to mess with it. I will get a Lund or PBD tune soon probably. This will make everything better on the A10 .
Thanks for that post! I had a very similar conversation with the dealer shop foreman/transmission specialist. It seems he wears both hats. But its a smaller family owned dealership not a conglomerate like most these days.

He basically told me that playing around with reprogramming if it isn't working bad might make it worse so I left it alone at the time. It was maybe 2 years ago now. He also noted that if you only ever drove one A10 you would think it wasn't right but after driving many he said they all have a quirky nature

Mine works pretty well overall but can be jerky at times in the more aggressive drive modes but in normal D it is smooth as can be. The problem with this trans is what exactly is normal. I don't think any of us really knows.

Minor update: Finally dropped the car off at the dealership for them to rework/tool the transmission. They say they have a kit with some updated parts., tools and cleaners to repair some of the know issues in the valve-body. They think this will solve the harsh downshifts particularly when coming to a stop. *Though admittedly the harshness is softer now in the warm weather.

ANYWAY, the renal I got was a 55th anniversary mustang with the 10A (I will be making a post about this rental car later!) this transmission is noticeably better than mine. Like a lot better.

I just hope they can fix it without replacing the whole valve body - I was told if they need to do this, it may be 1-2 months for the part.

Guys. If you want. I can be produce some of my bypass to keep the trans cooler running 24-7. However. If you are in cold environment.. this can keep trannies too cold.
Now one thing to consider is... An auto transmission is never too cold.
The cooler the better.
Would probably cost 10$
Let me know if interested.

Got my car back today from it being in the shop for hard downshifts in all drive modes, and behaving weirdly in certain circumstances. The downshifts were particularly bad in the winter. They preformed "an overhaul of the valve body" (by the way the report reads, they just cleaned it) updated/reflashed all software, preformed relearn process.

They said they found no damage, but found a good amount of debris in the valve body (this car only has 11k miles on it! how does that happen???) They cleaned the valve body, replaced filter, seals, etc.

The positives / surprises:

- The service department and the transmission guy were great, no complaints about any of them.

-I wasn't even complaining about the upshifts, I thought they felt fine before, but now they are super smooth.

-Another thing I wasn't complaining about was the shifter, PRNDS felt fine before, this also feels smoother now too.

The ehhh and not so great things:

-Now when parked or in a drive thru line you can her a faint high pitched sound coming from below the car. This was not there before the surgery šŸ˜Ÿ I have pretty good ears so it does bother me.

-The downshifts are indeed smoother, but they still feel wrong, still feels like i'm getting bumped a bit on the last downshift before I come to a stop. Not nearly as bad though, but this is the whole reason why I brought it in:frown:šŸ˜

Right now I guess I will wait and see if it gets worse. Though at this point I am not confident in this thing. I never wanted a 2021 Mustang. I was perfectly happy with my 2017 Mustang before that Cop totaled my car (I am still very bitter about this - if you couldn't tell šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬)

Message to Ford and all potential 10R80 buyers: So far I am really not impressed with the 10R80. At this point, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone. It really is the worst transmission I have ever used and I do not enjoy driving it. Stay far away form the 10R80.

Will this help a 6r as well or does that differ from the 10r?
Thanks
Ken
The 10r80 thermostat is different that 6r80.
So it won't work. However there is an option out there i think.

Similar concept can be applied to 6r80.too tho.

Ok guys I'll make some and give you un update. It is a little time consuming.
So pls be patient.

Has anyone driven another 10 speed in another vehicle? It seems all of them are like this from time to time.. there is soo many gears and things going on and the trans is always learning and adapting. I vote for getting a Lund trans tune and it shifts great and then you donā€™t have to deal with Ford anymore lol.. šŸ˜‚

I would love to get a tune for this thing. But I think the issue is Ford's poor design.

My problems are better with the reworking / tooling of the valve body, but they still persist. Which to me means a fundamental design or quality control problem. The logic when it shifts can be corrected by software, but I fear this thing has more problems than just software.

Personally I think its the clutch engagement timing in the programming that's screwed up.
That's where I think Lund fixes al lot of the issues.

How is Lund A10 programming implemented? Is there a satisfaction guarantee?
I guess Iā€™ve never heard of someone with lund transmission tuning that had a bad thing to say. Iā€™ve had it on a 2017 and a 2019 now and love it.. but depending if your transmission has actual mechanical problems then tuning wonā€™t help. 90> of the problems you hear about are fixed with software updates though and lund do their own calibration which fixes a lot or all of the normal issues reported. Good luck šŸ‘šŸ¼
