Precisely, which is why I tend to say that M1 is "garbage" since I've seen good evidence that is shears significantly pretty quickly and becomes a thinner oil than you expected.
I like my oil when it is fresh out of the oven, and I don't even give it a chance to cool. ;)

I'll second this - he makes a lot of very well done and meaningful comparisons - tools, oils, all kinds of stuff. Buys everything himself so its not advertised bullshit.
I've used probably 10+ different brands throughout the years... I haven't had anything blow either... in 40 years. I think the real secret is regular maintenance. In my Mustang, I've been using the purple stuff, but not because I think it's any better than other synthetics. It's just fun pouring purple oil in my car! Makes it feel special!

It's been $9.99 a quart for 5W50 at least 2 years. Napa has regular sales on Mobil 1 though, at $5.99 a quart. I bought 4 changes last time, and still have 2 left. Save where you can.
