Hey guys, I am looking for tires to place on a 17x9.5 Dark star wheel OR on a VMS 17x10 wheel. I want to daily the wheels in the summer months and am looking for a 1/4 mile ready set up that wont wear down super fast, and break the bank. I am having a hard time finding a tire that isn't Nitto 555rii that will work for this set up.

I am also curious what guys are running for front tires, I have read conflicting thoughts on running 2 different tire compounds. I am a big firestone indy500 fan for daily driving. But love the look of a small rear wheel with beefy tire and am not a fan of having to switch wheels for my car to perform at its peak, even though I know that is the best way.

2018 pp1 5.0 that is only driven in the summer.

Any suggestions?

I think the 555s are a good choice For street/strip use. I ran M/T ET street Rs and hoped it didn’t rain. Probably the best tire for the track. But not so much on the street.

Thanks for your thoughts! Do you have any other suggestions? If possible looking for a less expensive option.

If you’re looking for less expensive. I think nitto nto5r’s are great track tires for the money.

I run M/T drag radial tires on the rear and skinny M/T tires up front, but on the highway they can be a bit scary and I hope I never get caught in the rain!

I’m currently running a mt et street ss in 305/45-17 out back on a 17x10 beadlock and a continental dws06 up front on a 17x7 for daily duties. It’s amazing in the dry at all speeds
And does well at the track. Got caught in a gnarly downpour a few months back and almost sent it across 4 Freeway lanes at 50mph. Not recommended.
I know it’s not the cheapest tire but a toyo r888 is great dry and in the wet, and hooks pretty damn well. Nitto 555rs are cheaper and better in the rain than a MT, but you sacrifice dry traction. It really depends on your power level

Not the same size tire, but I'm running a 315 35 20 Nt555r2 on my car. They seem decent in the rain so far. I didn't push my luck but they're 100% better in the rain than ET street Rs lol. I'll hopefully get some track testing soon. Overall seems like a pretty solid tire.

Thanks for the info guys. When it comes to running a different tire compound up front. Is there anything to really look for / be aware of?

You mean like a harder tire up front ? Nothing really to be weary about.

The only real concern is mixing bias ply and radials. Aside from that, have at it. Tons of people have ran very different tires front and back for decades with no issues.

Thanks guys, yes exactly. Would love to run firestone Indy 500's up front, and the Nitto 555r2's in the rear.

I ran this with 245/45R19 firehawks up front. Zero issues even with Mickey Thompson bias ply rears.

Now I run these up front with Mickey Thompson 28 x 6 x 18 radials. I foresee zero issues.

Thanks wild, just what I was looking for! How do you find the vehicle handles at your top trap speed? any abnormal sway or movement when hitting that top speed or breaking etc?

Zero abnormalities. Straight as an arrow, braked like a champ. Gotta love IRS cars.
