So...I haven't had a Mustang in 25 years and I'm still trying to remember that there's a 6th gear :).

Just curious what the highest gear is that you guys drive in around town.

At 35-40mph 6th puts me at about 1k rpm and I'm wondering just how low is too low.

Not concerned with the sudden need to punch it but should I be worried about any detrimental effects of driving that slow in 6th gear?

4th gear for 35-40. If you have pp then 5th gear. keep rpm around 2000. 1000 is lugging bad.

Sometimes even 60mph is too slow for 6th gear; depending on terrain.
For me, it just seems 1750 is the point it is time to downshift.

4th or 5th around town. Usually 4th if I'm under 40mph and 5th if I'm at 45mph. Even 60 seems too low to be in 6th.

I think 4th/5th around town. I have the Performance Pack and even at 65 mph 6th feels a little tough. 70+ and 6th starts feeling right.

Yeah, 4th seems to be the sweet spot for around town driving

Simple: You have six choice, 3 of them make no sense at 45mph (1st, 2nd & 6th). That leaves 3rd, 4th & 5th... or whatever keeps your engine above 2k rpms (2k rpms ~ 3,400rpms).

City driving is more stop & go and has much more speed variances, so you should be in a slightly higher RPM range (ie lower gear) to be able to respond to traffic.

If you are going long distances at a steady pace @ 45mpg, just keep it in 5th.

30-40 mph, 4th gear, 40-50 mph, I'm in 5th gear. 50 mph, relatively flat surface with not much change, 6th gear.

I have the PP and this is when I'm driving civil.
