$52k driveaway for floor stock manual gt, Mustang Motorsport and Tickford were also showing off their cars it was definitely cringe worthy with the stereotypical MOCA hat wearing middle aged man. Enough to scare off a couple of younger ladies looking at a car.

Looks like the price gouging is likely to continue as well, as at 4pm I was told that they had only sold 3-4 cars and they had ~20 on the lot
That's an awesome deal, as of Friday night their website showed 79 Mustangs, Saturday night showed 64 cars, so looks like they may have sold more than 3 or 4.

What do we think thus means for the 18 model? Will it have the same issue in 2-3 years time? Or is the 15-17 a unique situation in that it was new/lots of dumped orders/2-star ancap rating ect.

It means that Ford, couldn't organize a chuck raffle. First they couldn't get cars and now they have way to many and have to give them away.

I think the issues will be the same, its the used car game, the only way they might retain value or go up in value is if in the near future Ford US decides to pull the pin on exporting right hand drive Mustangs to Australia. As for resale value according to Carsales a trade-in price for a 2015 GT Auto Fastback falls in the $39,800-$43,800 range.

Ford Australia only supply cars that are ordered by the car dealers and for the first 12 months dealers were not able to order any Mustang stock but now they can and they, the dealers have created over supply and price cuts.
You really can not blame Ford Australia. Dealers by nature are always after sales and this is why Mustang sales and resale values will now slowly come down, which of course is worse luck to all us Mustang owners. :(

Sorry, but of course it's Fords fault. At the start, Ford were only bringing in confirmed sales and then the opened it to greedy dealers.

Interesting to know why there was a such a long wait previously and now a dealership has 70 or so cars being discounted, feel sorry for those people who have just received their cars and paid retail or close to.
There was a wait because Ford US was only accepting orders from Ford AU from genuine buyers.

Don't forget the initial forecast was 2000 units a year... which then got squeezed to 2,500. Then the order book went off! Ford US was only delivering on actual orders.

Once Ford US had taken notice of the order book, they allowed dealers to place orders on what they thought they could sell. Some dealers then took obvious advantage - seeing the demand that was there, and over estimating what they could shift.

Now the orders have all but dried up with the announcement of the 2018 model, potential customers are waiting again, and dealers have been left with stock which they have paid for (they apparently do pay Ford US for every vehicle on delivery) and taking up storage space.

My dealer said they were happy with what they have, as they know they can make a call, if they need cars, to other dealers.... they know what is sitting where waiting for a buyer!

I still find it somewhat amusing that the President at the time leading up to the Mustangs Australian release, Bob Graziano, said the Mustang was "Fords Halo performance car". Given the way the dealers are pricing them now current President Graeme Whickman has a different perspective than ol Bob! Graeme obviously doesn't care too much for brand credibility or strategic model placement, I assume he has sacked the entire marketing department at Ford. As they say 50% of all marketing is a waste, the challenge is working out which 50% it is!!

Saw a Mustang ad on TV whilst watching the footy tonight.........have not seen one in ages.

Featured a 2016 (no roof antenna) Race Red GT Fastback with the wording "DON'T WATCH FROM THE BENCH" & "DRIVE ONE NOW" so obviously targeted at the footy audience.

It's the same ad that appears at the top of the Ford Australia Bookface page - just with different wording overlays.

Ford has no control over the price dealers sell for.
The ACCC would call that price fixing, or cartel behaviour.
Very illegal.
