We know the only leftover part from the gen 2 coyote is the crankshaft. From that you may infer the oil pump and gear are new. Better? Who knows.
Enginelabs article said it was new crank?
Enabled by new crankshaft and rod bearings, as well as a viscous crank damper, this Coyote revs 500 rpm higher than the Gen 2 to 7,500 rpm.
The new viscous damper should alleviate OPG and TG shock loading; however, they are so cheap and easy to upgradd now I doubt that Ford would burn the added cost for the 99% of 2018s that wont see FI.
Totally supportive of Ford spending the money overbuilding the hard to upgrade stuff like rod bearings, piston, crank, etc instead of the OPG TG which we can all easily do.

It's not failing in stock form on the Coyote, I hardly doubt they gonna change anything.
We have had a few in my area, good friend has worked at Ford for 30 years top mechanic. I stopped to visit with him the pic is a stock 5.0 no tune N/A. OPG broke and he has done several at least Ford replaced them with a new engine under warranty:thumbsup:

I did my OPG and CG when I did the vmp blower last month but I was really on the fence about it. I doubt this was even on fords radar with the new engine setup.

I did see the big issue with it when my shop took my stock one out...there is a very thin spot on one part of it...that's the weak area...he then showed me a stock one off the 03/04 cobra and it was MUCH bigger and MUCH thicker.

Only OPG I ever seen break on a genII is when you bounce off the limiter like a tard.

New P/N means that SOMETHING changed...could be all new and improved, could be a different manufacturer producing it for Ford, could be none of the above, in which case, who knows, new P/N for the sake of it, I've seen stranger things out of Ford...But I'd say it probably is, indeed, new and improved, given all of the other advances in the Coyote even from gen 1 to gen 2.

considering the 2018 pump is about 1/2 the price of the 15-17 I would not hope for much improvement.

When Lund retuned my car after the GT350 manifold swap they upped the automatic WOT to shift at 7750. They advised me don't bounce off the limiter and I will be good.

All I know is when I had no rev limit set I hit 8500 rpm occasionally and 8200 regularly at the drag strip. Car runs great.

Yo, fellow NJ guy. How are you running E85? I would love to, but I didn't think we had any E85 in NJ

i do it on all my "personal" shot cars first thing for what its worth

ounce of prevention...
