I pushed the power off switch by mistake while driving at 35mph and that turned off my engine in the middle of the road :eyebulge: was that a expected behaviour ?
True, but since the S550's push to start/stop behaves so differently from OP's other car it's probably worth a separate thread if only to highlight the differences among the various approaches to PTS.
I think at minimum there should be some sort of physical barrier to prevent inadvertent PTS button pushing, regardless of whether it takes only a momentary push or a several second hold to shut the engine down, regardless of whatever threshold has been programmed in for shutdown to be permitted.
Race cars use protected toggle switches for a reason. Street cars, operated under conditions where the driver is far more exposed legally, should be doing no less. I know damn well something along this line will be DIY-added to any future car of mine that is equipped with PTS.
Weird. On my previous Infiniti you would have to hold the button for 3 seconds to stop the car if it was in motion. Also, the button had more friction and was harder to press which was nice.
With how little force it takes to press the start button the mustang, I've double tapped it a few times when shutting off the car only to have it start again immediately. It seems like a huge oversight by Ford cause I can't imagine the shutdown immediately followed by a start is good for the engine.
