It shouldn't, since only pressurized air should be coming out of it when the throttle closes and BOV opens.
Yes it would, because what I (wrongly) suggested was to put this little filter on the air intake tube after removing the recirc hose. Therefore it would suck hot air directly from the engine bay.

What you say is correct if you put the little filter on the turbo side after removing the recirc hose, like Chef jpd did.

Gotcha, I thought it was in reference to Chef jpd's pic.

In Chef jpd it doesn't suck hot air, as pressurised air is released. However in the setup that I described above, yes, it definitely sucks hot air from the engine bay, if a chairleg tip isn't used to close the opening on the air intake tube.

Ok, because I'm bored, I got a 1.25" id filter and put it on the intake tube.
it is capped on the inside with the chair leg, so it is purely cosmetic.

Chef jpd what size chair leg tip are you actually using? I can’t find a tip that sits tightly on the opening on the air intake tube. 25mm (a bit less than an inch) seems to be too tight and the next size that I can find is 30mm (1.181”), which is loose and even if I tighten it up with a clamp I am afraid that it’s not air-tight and it sucks some unfiltered air from the engine bay.

This one was a touch loose as well. I just put a few wraps of electrical tape around the tube and it fit like a glove. It was 30mm i think.

Engine bay is cool as a cucumber, and the wastegate arm is not impeded, I notched the blanket.
