The battle that benefits everyone continues, but i've noticed a trend. The Camaro makes large strides in performance, while the Mustang does just enough to squeak by. I don't expect any real update for the Camaro until the new model is release because the last gen didn't have any major upgrades.

2010 Camaro 426hp
2010 Mustang 315hp

2011 Mustang 412hp (less than Camaro, but quicker)

2015 Mustang independent suspension, 435hp

2016 Camaro 455hp and 4.0 sec 0-60

2018 Mustang 460hp, and unknown sub 4.0 sec 0-60

Huh? I don't agree with you at all. The Mustang isn't "just squeaking by." That's happy horse crap(excuse my francais). The Mustang and Camaro have been making similar strides in performance(hp, irs, chassis, etc). When the Camaro got killed off for awhile, the Mustang lost its direct competitor, which is good for business, but bad for us. With that competitor back, it has forced Ford to make a better car. And in turn, a happier customer(us).

I think the models are just on different timelines as far as performance advancement goes. One jumps ahead then the other takes a few years to jump back into contention, but they always stay more or less competitive with one another.

My two cents.....The Mustang is so far ahead of the Camaro in the looks/appearance department its not even funny. Camaro is ugly as sin.

It has been this way as long as I can remember. Go back and look at car magazines from the 1980s. Always gunning for each other and always within spittin' distance of each other. We are the beneficiaries of all this progress.

The Mustang fairly consistently had power bumps, where Chevy stubbornly refused to upgrade the L99 in the Camaro. It was still the 400/400 that the car had in 2010.

There was a 2007 Dodge (Charger) SRT-8.... I'm assuming you were reaching for Challenger since you were listing 2 doors?

the mustang GT in 2010 stayed at like 330hp for YEARS. There was no camaro for it to compete with. Then camaro came out 400hp monster, and ford had to up it. and it continues, like it has since the invention of these two cars.

Seems like the Mustang is always the most liked car but the chevy will make the ford up their game performance wise.

To be fair the challenger wasn’t shit till it had a 392, what year is that 2012?
I loved taking down the 6.1L challengers in my 5.0.

In a viper the only thing that’s excites me are exotics, hellcats, c7zs.

Yes 2 doors. Even if I included the charger @ 425 it still does fit the OPs narrative. The American performance scene. Has always been competive. Out right performance doesn’t sell cars or the LS1s and 6th gen Camaros would be on top of the sales heap. Instead you have one that killed the Camaro. And another that’s about to kill it again.

The camaro isn’t the reason ford released the coyote in the mustang. Keep in mind, engine changes are planned years in advance. The coyote was produced not just for the mustang, but for the F150. Increasing power and torque is more of a result in trying to stay on top of the “towing” wars than anything else.

Ford has shown in the past that they care little about trying to match the camaro in regards to HP in their base V8 models. Hell, the mustang was stuck with 225hp (or less) from 87 thru 1998. Their priority is sales and profit.

This.

If not for the F150, the current 5.0 would not exist. Mustang is a niche product compared to the F150 cash cow.
