I'm not sure if it is just because I've been driving German cars for the past 15 years but I can't figure out how to deactivate the dome lights.

I prefer to use the ambient lighting most of the time so as to not disrupt night vision or the ability to see outside of the car.

Is there a way to set them so they don't come on unless manually activated?

U need to use Forscan for that. It's called dark mode. Once use use it. It will never come on. It's just either on or off.

Thanks! I take it that is the go to hacking/customizing tool for Ford cars?

turn car off, open and shut door. give it a minute, then it goes off.

very stupid and annoying at night, especially when trying to be discreet

Also wish the nav screen wasnt so bright. Lowest brightness is still pretty bright esp @ night

I guess there is no aftermarket light housing with a switch and full-time red LED spotlights? I'd get that if someone made it.

It's really bizarre Ford has left off such a common feature. I'm wondering what the design decision was on that one.

I did a little searching and I founds some people showing shots of their Sync screen that looked much better than what I have. This whole sync 3 system is a bit ugly/crude feeling to me.

I like the night mode but it's hard to see in the daytime. I think they drop the brightness along with the theme change.

But I'm not sure if those were Forscan changes or just the F150 Sync setup.

I don’t think it would be very difficult to find a set of proper sized red LEDs to install in the dome light housing. I got the typical blueish white ones for my car recently.

I'm kind of a simple guy that looks for the simple remedies to things. Can't you just remove the bulbs?

Me too, but I'm complicating things by wanting the ability to turn them on for rare occasions.

I noticed something interesting. The owner's manual shows what looks like a toggle switch on the dome light assembly graphic although it isn't labeled.

This makes me wonder if there may be a Euro spec version out there. Although the UK manual is exactly the same.

That's where where the convertible top switch is on my '13. I'm guessing it's the same for the '18. I would know for sure if my dealer would ever get through with the PDI on the wife's, and I could get it home.

Ah, yes. That is the convertible switch. Looks like I'm out of luck.
