Hey all. Looking forward to purchase a mustang GT in auto and was wondering if there’s quite a difference with the 3.15 vs 3.55. I don’t know too much about the rear so any help is appreciated :)

I test drove the 2018 GT 10speed with 3.15 and 3.55. Ended up buying the 3.55 because it felt a bit more peppy when overtaking on the highway and especially while taking off from a stop.

The 3.55 will make the gears seem shorter meaning you will shift more often. The trade off is faster acceleration for less gas mileage with the 3.55's and vise versa with the 3.15's.

3:55 gear is the only way to go in the A10 and yes its a good bit of difference and torque multiplication gas milage 25-26 at 70 so no issues in my book

If your getting a 18+.. 3.15 gears is what you want. Cause you know, you have 10 forward gears lol.

thats not the case -the 3:55 gear compensates for the rather Lackluster bottom end of this engine and gets it in the power quicker and keeps it there .its called torque multiplication ..1-7 are usable.7th gear is 1:1 ratio 8th-10th OD ...get 3:15s if you want a lazy coyote ...theres a reason 3:55 is a part of performance package .3:15 is an economy gear -hence the non performance package another words grandmas grocery getter gear

I'd get 3.55, I have an 18 with MT-82 and 3.55, wish I had 3.73s instead now.

The quickest s550's in the world run 3.15/3.31 gears. The GT4 Mustangs run 3.31 as well. Grampa is just saying.

I'd think the consideration would be totally different with the A10?

Sorta depends on what you prefer from a driving perspective. I sought out 3.55's because of the same reasons others have mentioned above (peppiness, ease of passing, mpg's aren't that different, etc.). I drove both and decided the 3.55's were for me. All a matter of personal preference unless you are shooting for big boy hp....in that case stick to 3.15's.

I'd still take the shorter gears. I know the A10 is quick as is but there is a reason the PP cars have 3.55.

Well are those cars boosted or NA? If you're adding a SC, I would keep the 3.15 so 1st isn't useless.

I went with 3.15s on my 2019 A10 order. I had them in both my NA 6R80 S197s and I enjoyed them. The 10R80 has an even shorter first gear than the 6R80 so I decided the 3.15s would work for me. Also cruising at higher speeds (130+) should yield a little better fuel economy than the 3.55s, so I’ll take that too.

NA tend to go 3.31 and like you said boosted tend to go 3.15. But hey with 3 overdrives go 5.13's lol
