Yes it is as official as it gets without it being fully official.

His statement that the GT350 "will live along side the GT500 for the first time in fifty years" is interesting. Back then, they were two different cars for two different purposes and drivers. He did say that the GT500 takes everything they learned from the last generation of that car, as well as both the current GT350 and GT350R and builds on it. It'll be interesting to see if the two cars will be geared towards two different purchasers this time around.

My guess is the 500 is going to be significantly more expensive. How close in performance is a PP2 GT vs the GT350 now?

I don't really remember it the way you do. The first year of the GT350 was relatively pure, and then it got quickly watered down after that. By the time the GT500 came around, the Shelbys were more appearance than race in build intent.

To me in the past when the GT500 and GT350 lived together the GT500 was very similar to the GT350, but with a bigger engine.

Just can't get enuff!
I see it as GT500 = bigger (more powerful) engine and higher pricepoint or higher tier level while the GT350 = same fun to drive street & track car we're used to.... a good recipe akin to how Porsche does it with GT3RS and GT3 models. Or Chevy now with ZR1 and Z06.... or Camaro with ZL1-1LE and ZL1. Similar examples to give the consumer more performanse choices plus I doubt the standard GT350 will significantly drop in price/value. If anything, it can be perceived as more of a bargain / lesser cost alternative. We'll see... and the markups on GT500's will be absurd anyway at least early in the game.

I am excited to see the GT 500, may get rid of my 350 for it. I definitely wont buy the GT 500 in the first model year.

Cue all the butthurt owners because the resale values just went down lol /s
And how many GT500 owners were "butthurt"?

That car went what, 7 model years?

Actually 8 model years with some ~50,000 GT500's produced during that time period.

;)

It will be interesting to see what the weight ends up at. Even with 700 HP, adding 2 - 300 lbs more weight on the chassis would not be good. Ford really needs to put the platform on a weight loss program.

Makes sense to me..... the 350 was such a success that it would be foolish to not continue and expand upon the lessons learned. I'm pleased that I have the first allocation from my dealer at a low ADM, however I am concerned that the first model year will be a very low production and wind up only going to VIPs.

Eh...I think it was less than that. Think it's closer to around 40,000. There were a few years that had significantly low production numbers. I think the highest production year was around 12,000 and lowest was around 4,500.
