Is it just me or did the gt500 take too long to come out that it lost it's luster?
No.

Hopefully in about 2 weeks we will have something, but I can wait another month or two if necessary. What will lose luster, IMO, is if it gets released as a one show pony.

That's exactly what I was going to say, if its not nearly as bad ass as we think OR they don't show it and for some crazy reason it doesn't show until summer/fall or later.

my #1 gripe will be if it's made in 2 trims, just make everything orderable from 1 trim. ie: carbon group1, carbon group 2, track pack, manual, DCT, ac/rear seat delete. #2 gripe would be if it falls short of expectations, which are high.

I agree. I don’t like how they don’t really let you individualize much. I don’t know if they changed it but you couldn’t get electronics package and track pack! Why?!! They limit themselves from add on sales!! Ask Porsche how they are the most profitable company!! I understand not allowing so much on base car but on SE Mustang they could have far larger profit margins if they allowed for more customization.

I kinda liked the pre-set configs on the 350. Gives an as-designed feeling and I’m sure it helps keep the cost down on a production line that focuses on volume.

I’m sure it’s going to be the same as when the 350 was revealed

I hope you're right, but I think Ford jumped the shark with a FPC V8 (magneride and the aluminum center rotors were also big for me, but not as big as the Voodoo). In order for me to get that same feeling they would have to do something pretty extraordinary. Right now I have the feeling they are going to mostly repurpose the same ideas from the GT350 without much new. DCT is not a positive IMO.

1. Not sad GT350 is going away (unless it improved). Keeps value.

2. Of course the GT500 would be 200 MPH plus. Why would it be less than GT350!

I am man, show me the baby! And I will show you the Money!

The fastest I saw was 175.5. Not much left. My guess the 350 max speed is 180

Yeah, it's not that slippery. Powerful enough to hit 200, but too much drag.

I thought that the maximum speed of the GT350 was at max RPM in 5th gear. So the problem isn't power, it's gearing.

Am I remembering this wrong?

nope, thats right. 6th tops out at 280mph or something stupid if you didn't have drag. So both the GT350 and the GT350R top out at redline in 5th, with the R having a lower top speed, not due to drag, but due to shorter tires making for shorter gearing.

My Shelby may have hit 166 mph at 7,800 RPM in 5th. Not sure how much it had left.
