So, the 8 Series BMW is going to come out this fall.
Twin turbo V8 powerplant
523 HP
AWD
3.6 seconds 0-60

It should be similar in size and shape to a Mustang - albeit heavier.

How will it compare to the GT500?

BMW: Voted most inconsiderate drivers on the road. Can confirm.

GT500: Voted my men's magazine as sexist car to drive.

That was easy.

Why is it sexist to drive a GT500?

It seems to me on the streets, obeying the law the BMW will be better than the GT500. Quicker, more comfortable, much more luxurious.

On the track, depending on what the GT500 is built to do - obviously the GT500 will be better when you get into triple digits and it will pull more lateral Gs, out brake the Bimmer, etc.
The laws the BMW is designed to obey do not limit speed on the highway. It'll certainly carve out a home on the circuit, but it's built for Autobahn cruising (traffic and construction aside). More comprable, all-around, to an Aston Martin or F-Type than to the GT500.

I'd expect the BMW to be a shade quicker to 60 but will get romped after that in every way.
I know AWD, underestimating on BMWs and all that, but if the GT500 cant rip off a <3.6s 0-60, I have to think that’s a miss. Regardless of what it can do elsewhere. If its not low 3 second range

It should be, but heavy + powerful + RWD is tough. If it goes better than 3.3 I'll be surprised (that's what the Z06 does).

Yeah it should not have a problem with a BMW 8. 0-60 will be traction limited for sure, but in absolute performance the GT500 should walk all over the Bimmer.

I would have to agree. Considering the last gen gt500 did 0-60 in 3.5 seconds (https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2013-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-test-review) if the new gt500 can’t beat that with 50+ more hp and 5 years better technology, then that will be very dissapointing. I don’t see that happening and really think the gt500 with the dct will give the Z06 a run for its money.

That’s what the Z06 does very consistently on the street. I have on the street with PDR (doesn’t account for rollout) pulled 3.1-3.2 several times. 3.3-3.4 is basically warm tired with launch control every time. But with the DCT and additional power if it’s well engineered I think the GT500 can pull low 3’s consistently.

Right, also the additional 600lb helps with traction

I was unable to do under 4s with the '13 Gt500, no matter how I tried with stock tires. I could only pull a 3.8s when I got some new Michelin PSS on the rears...

I really think traction is a problem with so much power and RWD. The beemer will walk away anytime, everytime with AWD. Remember it also has electronics and gimmicks to maximize traction and torque for launch....

My currently modded 335xi is so easy to launch, it can outrun the gt350 for sure in the first 2 hears. Not a problem. The shelby will catch up in the long run, but off the line, AWD wins all else being sort of equal.

Agreed. The 2013 could do it in 3.7 or less.

If the new one doesn’t curb stomp that number SIX YEARS later, then... they are quite simply “doing it wrong.”

I am hopefully expectant of sub 3 second 0-60. The suspension and tires need to be on point. It cannot be a porker either.
