At part throttle, the VVT action of the cam phaser(s) is very active. The tick noise on my '18 is coming from the driver's side cam phaser area.

A recent data log I did below shows the slow, part throttle rise in rpm (blue line). The light green line is my intake cam timing. Notice the green line stays basically unchanged until around 2100 rpm. Then the cam phaser does it's job and changes the intake timing. At this point, my tick goes away. The noise is in direct correlation with the timing events. Not wrist pins, piston slap, HPFP, etc. Now what is the cam phaser doing that's causing it? I dunno, but it runs great so not going to worry about it.
Wish that was the case for me :headbonk:

I have the same noise in my 2018 GT; Took it to 2 dealers ; First said it was normal , second tested it against a new one on the lot and that car was quiet. My car is booked in next week to be checked . 2400km; The noise is always there just slightly less when warm. Engine build date Nov 7 2017.
Cold start revving up to 2000 rpm in second video.

I'm sorry to say my PP2 has this exact same noise at start up and is now at the dealer being diagnosed. It is a bit more random in nature that the OP video but sounds like crap. After the car is up to temp for some time the issue seems to go away from what I've seen so far. It is still loud enough to be concerning to me though. I checked a few cars at the dealer lot that had been sitting for days and they don't exhibit this issue. This in itself tells me it isn't normal.

My car is also exhibiting the issue of a weird grinding type noise when shifting into 1/2/3 under moderate acceleration. I originally changed the clutch spring thinking it was me engaging it poorly due to the strange feel of the 18' clutch but no. It does the same thing with the Steeda spring but I can't seem to always reproduce it. I drive the car the same way I did my 15' and never heard anything like it before.

Not wanting to give them too many issue at once to focus on I let it slide for now until I know what's happening with the engine. I'm not a happy camper right now.

Mine sounds basically identical to this at idle, only time it's noticeable.

exactly the same noise with my GT. Engine build 03.Jan. 18.(2700km) Yesterday i was @ford and they said, that they had no experience with that noise. I got a paper where the service manager aknowledged that there was a strange noise and we checked a brand new GT aswell. funny, it had the same noise . after a cold start it was rattling aswell . we decided, that i will make some more miles in my hollydays in the next month with my GT and see how it developes. since i bought the car on the 10.th of april i am still with the warranty. if it goes down i have a proof that i was at the dealership and they will have to fix it. cheers from berlin.

I've been active in the "other" engine thread and thought I'd add my video to the collection. I've got a slight ticking and I'm thinking it's the clutch.

This video was shot after my home commute of 30-45 minutes so she's up to operating temp. Exhaust is on quiet and when I go over the engine it seems to be coming from the back part.

Hope this helps someone.

Is the ticking you are hearing deeper in tone? It's hard to hear it in your video even with headphones but I think I caught it a couple of times. Does it sound like anything in my videos below? You need headphones to hear it well, but it's there in the background. I thought it was engine knock but the dealer thinks it might be the clutch too. They are still trying to locate it. Happens at operating temperature too.

I re-listened to both your videos and mine - in mine you can hear the light higher pitched, seemingly random ticking at around :23-:30 and again around 1:19-1:29. It's pretty light and really sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine or front of the transmission. The one thing I didn't do was mess with the clutch to see if the noise goes away once it's depressed.

In your video, mainly the 2nd one it's more of a bass-ey thump but I hear some of the same ticking I've got as well.

Update: went to the dealer to get some stuff out of my car. Service writer said they confirmed it was bottom end related and that Ford knows about it and has a special service bulletin in regards to it, informed me it was covered under warranty and they would begin ordering parts to begin repairs when ford got back to them or something. I also spoke to the technician and he said something about a specialist calling them or im not sure exactly.

Tech stated that the tick went away when the #3 cylinder was cancelled. One specific instance I found was where the noise produced was almost identical to mine and the end result was the rod journal clearance being out of spec by a few thousandths. I guess we will see.

Are you getting a short block or long block?
not 100% sure yet, service writer said short block and tech said "bottom end" But this is hearsay nothing from ford yet. Although I dont see them giving me a long block if they dont need to unfortunately. Of course I want to protest this and either get a long block or an extended warranty. Like I said before I have a case open with ford for the warranty claim but their first line of customer service is lacking.

If you can, try to get the service bulletin number. I'm real curious as to what it says.
