Battery voltage

This may be a stupid question, but how many volts are you guys getting in your mustangs? I only ask because mine reads 12.3-12.6 in the Information Display and this seems kind of low to me. I'm used to seeing 13.3-14.5 on newer cars. I've not actually measured the battery itself while the engine was running. :shrug:

Mine's very moody. Once it was in the mid 11's! Most of the times it's between 13.0 and 13.5. A few times 13.7 and at others in the 12's.

Has started up without a problem so far (1 month, 1000 miles).

the voltage will go up to 14.5ish when the alternator is running. I was getting 12.3V when the car was off when testing my audio system.

So when the car is running, it does not necessarily mean the alternator is charging. They have a whole set of logic in the ecu code that dictates when the alternator is actually charging.

By doing it this way, they are able to squeak out slightly better mpg ratings as they are able to control the parasitic lag the alternator introduces.

Watch the volt gauge when you are are off the gas and slowing down. The volts should go up. It kind of works how a hybrid uses the electric motor to regen when you let off the gas and want to slow down. Of course it will randomly kick on as needed when driving.

I measured mine directly from the battery using a fluke and was getting 13.4 with the car off

I may go out at lunch and measure my battery and see what it's reading koeo. It should be battery voltage or a little less.
