I assume I have the sound tube (2018 GT non-PP). Was thinking about removing it, but then I realized I'm not sure if I hear anything from it. What sound does it pump in? I hear my exhaust from the rear, I don't hear much else.

It supposedly amplifies intake noise (and by association, engine/exhaust) inside the cabin. I ordered one of those irrigation valves that BJstang installed so I can try shutting it off and on to see, or hear, rather, what exactly the sound difference is.

So is it possible that some of the exhaust sound I am hearing is from the sound tube?

Very unlikely.

So then what does the sound tube do? I guess I don't know what sound I should be hearing. Is it just the sound of the engine like it sounds when you have the hood open?

Maybe bjstang can take an open-valve and closed valve video.

Well, it does make noise when you are on the gas hard, I took mine out and for sure it was quieter and also better sounding without that fake racket.

It's induction sound. When engine is sucking in air, the air hits closed valves to cause an echo. You are hearing the echo.

The sound of ripping it out and throwing it in the garbage can.

I removed the sound tube shortly after I got my 2018. Sounds much better without it.

You will hear: less engine noise all the time (will reduce peak cabin noise) and you'll hear a cleaner sound from your exhaust. The mixing of the two can create a drone-ish sound inside the car.

Is it just quieter? How is it different/better?

If you want more noise from the stock intake, you can cut the resonators off and cap them. Many people remove the sound tube because it's just clutter and the engine bay looks better with it gone in my opinion. You can put a cap in the firewall once you get that pain in the ass plug out from it.

I didn't notice a difference because I changed intakes when I removed the sound tube. Plenty of noise coming from the engine bay now.
