I suppose you could buy an old Android for Waze only. Don’t get service for it, but rather use you iPhone as a hotspot.

I do, but its not official. My iPhone is jailbroken which allows me to run any 3rd party app on my SYNC 3 with ease!
I have an old iPhone 6 that I’m willing to muck with. Any websites you recommend for how to jailbreak and set up Waze for car play?

I do that, it's a lot easier than having to constantly fumble with the cable when you get in the car, you just have to keep re-enabling your iphone hotspot.
