Kitchen cabinet bumper pads.

I would say in the middle, not rock hard and far from being squishy

I put those clear squishy adhesive feet at the corners on the back of the license plate. There is ~2mm gap between the license plate frame and back bumper so no worries about scratches or water accumulating. It also eliminates the frame from rattling when you close the trunk.

Went to ACE and got the Vinyl bumpers. They are flexible and rubber feeling/slightly squishy.

I have put the same thing, and after one year and one hard winter (Canada) they are still there and no marks on paint

I used the same thing that is on my fusion. downside, requires drilling.

My salesman left the plastic dealer tag on under the metal plate as a protector. It works pretty well and didn't cost me anything. Then I put on a black plastic frame to finish it out.

I use the little clear rubber pyramids made to stop cabinets from bumping when you shut them... strong enough adhesive to stay on for years but comes right off with no clean up when you need it to...

^This. Easiest thing to do.

Sorry i just got around to getting photos. but here is my solution as i mentioned before

I used the little furniture pad feet and attached them to the inside bottom left and right of the plate.
