Okay, so, I bought my car new in August of 2016 - it's a Nov. 2015 built car, originally delivered to a dealer in Philly, wound up dealer traded to two Houston dealers before I purchased. Car had 400 miles on it when I took delivery. I think somebody had it for a week and had to give it back maybe couldn't get financed - owners manual has some hand written notes in places.

The car has been fantastic since new - I had an MGW installed at about 3,500 miles

At about 30,000 miles, I began to hear a rattle at about 3000 RPM - everything seemed fine, I figured it was excess NVH due to the MGW, and went on down the road...

At 50,000 miles, I began to notice a "clunk" when taking off - was busy, couldn't get it looked at, read all about drive shaft noise on a two piece shaft, kept on moving...that was one year ago.

At 60,000 miles, the noise increased, happening in all gears from about 2500-3500 RPM the noise has been increasingly louder. For the last 1500 miles 1st and 2nd gear have been more and more difficult to engage.

Last night, driving home, I hit 66,000 miles, transmission won't shift into 1st or 2nd. I limped it on into work today, starting out in third, riding the clutch like crazy to get it started from a stop. Clutch pedal now feels less than smooth.

I work in parts at a Ford dealership....so, looking at my options....2018 trans, clutch, etc. are the lowest cost option, but the 2018 MT82 is on D99 BACKORDER until May.

TR6060 OR 3160 are expensive and a week out.

Magnum XL swap kit from JPC is about 1400 more than stock MT82 with shipping...which is just about a wash compared to the 6060 or 3160

Looks like I'll need to provide a new slave cyl and throwout bearing.

Now, the shop doing my install of whatever I go with, has a contact (not calimer) who will rebuild mine for 400 labor plus parts, so, who knows how much that would be, if it would be reliable, and who knows if I have any warranty. I'd rather not rebuild.

New Ford stock replacement has a 3YR/unlimited mile warranty.

Thoughts?

Thanks!!!!

Depending on what your future plans are for the car would be the key decision maker for me. Having blown through two MT82's I can tell you that you can find a good used low mileage one for 800-1200 dollars. If you are not planning FI or a ton of abuse it should last the life of the car.

Going with a Tremec Magnum XL - it's more expensive than a new MT82, has a 90 day warranty VS. the MT82 with a 2 year warranty. I feel the need for a warranty is far less likely with a high quality transmission.

Hey, I appreciate the offer, but a new MT82 wasn't a consideration once I had the green light to go Tremec... Out of curiosity, why are you selling yours?

$1800 for a stage 1 build from Ben Calimer. A little more than half the cost of a new transmission and alot better.

I considered that as well...but I really wanted a Magnum XL, so, I went that route
