Considering that some 2018 models are equiped with the digital cluster and some others with the classic analog one (which seems to be the same as the cluster on the 2015-18 models), I suppose it is possible to retrofit the digital cluster to the 2015-17 Mustangs.

However, to be honest, I prefer the classic cluster.

whats the part no? id like to ask around canadian dealers
Here are the Ford Parts links.

Auto: http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/P...search=true&year=2018&make=Ford&model=Mustang

Manual: http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/P...search=true&year=2018&make=Ford&model=Mustang

The part number appears to be JR3Z10849JG

No confirmation that it will work on 15-17s yet. I am going to go into the wiring diagrams now that the 2018s are out in the wild and see if there are any differences. For what it’s worth, I don’t see a core charge for these links so if someone wanted to attempt to order one I would be curious to see if they tack on that core charge.

They probably would considering how you “have” to order it like the other clusters though I think the core charge should be higher the 350 cluster is $600~ with a $500 core charge.

I also thought of something as well. To gain the digital speedometer I wonder if it is possible to change the 15-17 cluster as built data with the matching base/premium 18-20 cluster though premium may again lead to some of the issues like the 350 cluster.

I am shipping of the 350 cluster soon to have the ODO changed. If it all goes well then used swaps are going to be easy.

I'm definitely following along on this one, I'd love to see that new digital cluster in a 15-17!

yea this would be great, but who is going to be the person to step up first and take the leap for us. Maybe once more info like the wiring diagram are analyzed it would be more definitive to say it can be done or not.

Well I went ahead and purchased a pass to the wiring diagrams. The IPC connector is exactly the same for the LCD cluster as the analog 2015-2017 cluster! (not surprised)

Top is 2017 and bottom is 2018 (no separate connector diagram for LCD which means the analog and LCD share the same connector pinout)

PS: If anyone wants to know something else about the 18 wiring diagrams let me know as I have a 72 hour pass.

The only question now really is programming. How the LCD cluster will react to being in a 15-17 vehicle. My main concern is transmission gear indicators for automatics and the drive modes. The 18 of course has the 10 speed and slightly different drive modes. There is a chance that this will cause an issue but IMO I think the cluster will be a direct plug and play mod for 15-17s as well as base 18s.

As long as we can find a cheap and reliable means to program the odometer then we should be all set! Ordering directly from Ford will allow for odometer programming but used clusters will required other means.

As I said in a previous post, the fact that the 2018 model comes with either the digital or the analog IPC (which is the same as in the 2015-17 models) indicates that the digital should work on our cars. Probably some programming would be needed though.

I think this is an issue that must me discussed in the As-built data thread. If we can find the as-built data of the IPC module of a 2018 model and compare it with a 2015-17, we might identify what needs to be changed.

It would be nice if ford was forward thinking enough to make the digital cluster backward compatible with the older cars and the 6 spd auto. Not counting on it, but I can't wait to see someone get their hands on a cluster and plug it in.

Exactly! God forbid some bean counter think of some way to make residual money off of outgoing models with new model parts.

Haha what is more liking is that they changed as little as possible between the 6r80 and 10r80 in order to save costs on the refresh. If that is the case I think its a good bet that the gears will display correctly but just wont go up to 10. It is also just as likely that the transmission communicates its gear info in a completely different manner software wise and will not be compatible.
