I got a call from Ford today, asking if I wanted to put a deposit down on the new 2018, they are talking $80-85k. This really pushes the mustang into territory it is not cut out for, there is no way you should be buying a mustang over a CLA45, RS3.

The fit and finish of the 15-17 Mustang's was sub-par at best, the manual gear box was abysmal, far too many issues for a $60k car, now they will raise the price to $80-85k who are they kidding?
So true. That's about $15k over the odds. I doubt that price range though. Otherwise, Mustang suicide? Or, massive discounting to follow. Good to hear about more options though.

Order books have opened. Ford Aust want the first allocations from dealers by 20th Dec, Production of these orders will commence in March with delivery of July 2018. Ford is delivering 1,000 cars in July, 950 in August, 900 in Sept, 850 in Oct etc. for a total delivery of 4,500 cars by the end of 2018. As I posted earlier, I've seen the letter from Ford to the dealerships. Official launch of the car is July 2018. Prices haven't been released yet so ordering the options is a bit of a gamble. Initially I ordered the Recaros but have been told they could cost an additional $3,000- 4,000, but at that price I cancelled them.
If I knew how to attach the letter, I would
Which letter are you referring too? The dealer note does not mention numbers or allocations. It only mentions the options and also the arrival “second half of next year”

Would love to see it as I have seen the letter from today

Hope you are right Mick.
If the range is $80-85k I'll be backing out and looking for a 2017 to suit.

The letter is 7 pages long. I have it as a PDF, how do you attach a PDF?

Sorry, but how do I do that, I don't have a photo of it and how would I attach the image anyway? Is there some way I can attach the PDF?

Be interesting to see the take up rate of MY 18 and sales. I suspect less demand as many cashed up boomers already bought.

it almost sounds like ford are trying to exploit the early adopters for the 18 after seeing the wait list for the 16, however not realising that most that ordered are not going to order another, lightning doesn't strike twice (i think). i don't know, until more details are released, it's all just speculation

Not to worry about that quoted price now. In typical Ford fashion, if they start at RRP $80k, a certain dealer who is the “Mustang specialist” will be discounting them by 25% to 35% within 12 months of release......

Pricing against Camaro?
What? So you lift your price dramatically, to match your major competitor and give them a huge leg up? No sane car manufacturer lifts price by 20%+, especially, when they are already discounting. HSV say, that they're expecting to sell about 1000 Camaro's at a price "from" $80k. Over 6000 Mustangs will be sold this year with solid discounting. At $80k+, sales would fall to below 1000 for sure and down to a trickle in no time. RHD Mustang will then die as a "one hit" wonder.

I really doubt the $80-85. My guess is closer to $70K

In mentioning the Camaro, I wasn't suggesting matching it, rather that with a modest increase on current RRP it would still be competitive against the Camaro.

A price increase on the Mustang is inevitable, but I honestly can't see it being in the $80-85K range that a Dealer has apparently quoted.

The indicative pricing I was provided by two dealers was “high 70’s” for a auto gt with another 4K for magnaride. Even 78-79k for a auto gt is stupid money.

I think maybe it’s a pricing game from ford to discover what people would pay hence this huge rush to get orders in by Monday.

I also had a dealer advise they need $2500 deposit on a stock car and 5k on an optioned car... hahah nope

Great point. A lot of buyers have been cashed up "boomers" and most likely, once of buyers. Many potential repeat buyers, people leasing/financing, will not be ready to change over till 2019/20. Very challenging times for Mustang sales coming up, even without price rise.
