With those Plates, maybe they're getting ready to shoot the 2018 Brochure Photos.
I think the brochure probably will use the photos we've already seen on the 2018 Mustang site since those are the type of images they use. Maybe these cars are for a commercial? I'd be curious to hear from someone around there if there's any film crews or one of these hanging around:

I have noticed the headlight gap/space on a few other new models out there, but not sure what the function could be. Everything seems to be going to LED headlights so cooling wouldn't be it. Seems to small an opening to be cooling for anything else

To help answer this question I suggest that someone get a good close up straight on picture (with flash) of the gap to see if in fact it actually opens into the engine bay or if it's just a cosmetic gap and is closed.
