This system is premiering in the Mercedes S Class on a 3.0L. It appears to offer the advantage of repeatable on-demand performance without any consumables (like nitrous or ethanol).
Pluses vs V8:
+ Equivalent or slightly more low-end power than V8 for the first 1/8 mile or so.
+ Better overall performance at elevation (like Denver)
+ Better Fuel Economy
+ Can be Paid for after you pay off new car, or retrofit to bargain used Ecoboost.
Negatives:
- More Stress on smaller engine
- Voids any powertrain / emissions warranties
- Billy Bob Quality Installation
No mention of price to install a supercharger and a new larger turbo charger, but for every dollar that brings this system closer to $9,000 (GT vs Ecoboost prices) the more this becomes a marketing fail.
Mods: Seems like you could get IT guys to update/fix spell checker to include terms like powertrain and Ecoboost. This is a car site right?
