Modifying stock intake vs buying CAI

From what I can see there is actually not that much different between stock air box and CAI setups. So I got a question...

Would it make sense to try and modify stock air intake setup in order to save 300-400$ on buying CAI.

its all plastic anyway, so it should not be a big issue :)

And I dont mean to built a whole new intake. Just change the stock.

Has anyone tried?

I think that you may pick up more air flow than stock I threw a K&N filter cone on mine and you could def. hear it more, but in the other aftermarket set ups you would have a bigger tube along with how the air flows through the pipe that matters.

Supersix motorsports modified the stock air box in there v6 that they supercharged but no one has done this mod on this forum yet that I know of. I also do not know how they did it.

I installed a drop in a panel K&N and removed the front intake resonator to get more flow and sound. It honestly didn't do much and I suggest you just save your money for a real CAI.
