for some reason i trust ramps more than jack stands. I've had my car wobble on jack stands when i was tightening nuts before and it was very very scary.
What? When my car is on stands I can't budge it - and I'm no shrimp at 6'3" 220lbs.

My neighbor used ramps for his oil changes. Until he watched me do a quick oil change after work (before dark - my garage was filled at the time) using jack and jackstands. He hasn't used his ramps since I don't think.

If ALL I did was oil changes - maybe. But I've done engine swaps, transmission swaps, rear end swaps (just did it on my '17 Mustang) all on jack stands in the garage. Heck - back when I was constantly messing with 4th gen F-Body's - we were dropping the entire front subframe for clutch and other jobs. Sounds like more work, but it was faster in the long run.

Make them out of some wood. I know the plastics that they use are very strong and probably have inside support, but wood is pretty cheap.

I use both ramps and jacks/stands. It depends on the job to be done.

get jacking rails and jack your car up and put the ramps under the wheels.
