In Florida flogging it on the back roads with the cows I have seen it up to 254 F with an inlet temp of 97-100 F.

At the race track in cali in 100f weather 285+ oil cooler temps is what you get. I'm running slicks and push the car hard.

Your car is fine.

One option is a larger oil cooler in stock location. If the stock one is a 19 or 25 row you can go to a 30 row. If if the whole cooler isn't in the path of air it will help shed some heat.

At this point I'm not worried.

That's what I said in original post. I want to know if anyone has done oil cooler upgrade or a scoop which I think might be the easy remedy.

While at the Track Attack in July I checked the car I was driving and at the end of a session the oil temp was 256 degrees when back in the parking area. Outside temps were about 100 that day. Wonder if anyone else checked theirs or someone going soon would just to get an idea if this is pretty normal which I suspect it is.

an update. sold the GT350, bought a GT350R.
group of us (all race Miata), of 5 of us that tracks our GT350/R, ALL hit minimum of 285F. some as high as 300F depending on weather and track.

while I am okay with 300F (I do frequent oil change anyway), these cars run hot !!

I don't see any easy way to get more air the oil cooler, but you could get more air to the radiator, would that screw with the downdraft?

Glad you chimed in. The front end of this car is an absolute bug magnet, maybe because of the way it's driven? Other than hot water, any other suggestions without pulling the bumper?
The best I have found to clean bug carcasses is use a hydrogen peroxide solution. Spray it on, let it sit 5 minutes, then rinse it clean. We do this on the front of our motorcycles after a long trip, it works like nothing else.

I like to disassemble things.
I've found cold water will work but you have rinse/wait repeat alot. Now all my vehicles either wear bug screen bra or window scree behind the grill. Seems after being strained the bug juice is easier too wash off. I've seen radiators so plugged you just replace them. Now that's Florida. Does LA have bugs? Here in evenings you can hear the bugs hitting the windshield.
That's my old GT350 in the photo you linked. I just used a bristle brush parallel to the fins and the bugs came right out.

That's normal. No issues. Just dont be running 50-weight Motul or Amsoil. The factory 50 is a thin 50. More like a 40.

I’m looking into a larger hood vent option. Not only to reduce temps, but also to reduce hood lift.

I have a '16 tech with aftermarket trans and diff coolers. 5 laps at PBIR 85 degrees will bring engine oil over 300f

Nope I have not, sounds like you have though. What were your findings?
Increased aluminum, iron & copper. Nothing huge, but pretty noticeable after 2 changes with it and then dropped back down after using M1 0W40. There's also not much Moly or Zinc and they primarily use Boron. Overall the additive pack does not seem that impressive -coming from a non oil engineer idiot.

It's fine. I've seen far worse oils out there, but for the money I have better wear from a less expensive and more readily available oil.
