So as many of you know since August last year, my car has had a rather obnoxious clunk, it's not got better or worse.

However, I've got pedders xa coilovers (http://www.pedders.co.uk/extreme-xa-coilover-kit_p31627189.htm#.WuuGIIiUu70) and the steeda irs base pack (https://www.steeda.co.uk/steeda-s550-mustang-irs-base-pack-c2x22649870) bushing inserts on the car (and later down the line steeda topmounts - https://www.steeda.co.uk/steeda-s550-mustang-billet-rear-shock-mount-c2x25672762. It's driven with both of these on fine for a few months however then began to devlop a clunk (IRS and Pedders), it's only ever occurring on uneven roads.

I've been to multiple suspension specialists and messaged many people on here individually about this clunk.

The car has been back to pedders to have the coilovers looked at, and it was determined this wasn't the cause.
It's been with ford twice including their master tech, who has also determined that he cannot find it.
I've been told by Ford to bring the car back standard and see if the clunk continues. I've personally removed and refitted it to stock on my garage floor - the clunk was still there
I've had tegiwa imports also look at the car, and they couldn't find anything.

The cars had all of its bolts retorqued to spec numerous times and the most anyone can ever muster is "the exhaust catches on the valance".

I'd been suggested by people here that it may be the topmounts so these were switched out for steeda topmounts, and the clunk continued.

I've driven with the mufflers off the car, and guess what. It still clunked.

The ford tech, however, this week told me that it could potentially be the steeda inserts (the metal ones), and asked me to test with these, out, i'm reluctant to do so because they're a bit of a **** to fit, but also because it drove for months on these without clunking.
He's also suggested maybe needing different IRS bolts as the car is lowered, and therefore less thread to grab (?)
Ford have confirmed all bushings, NVH deflectors, and other bits and bobs under the car are in full working and serviceable condition with no noticable issues.
Ford also confirmed both brakes and hubs are fine.
I do run aftermarket alloys which have a CB of 72.6 (vs the cars 70.3) the 'hubcentric spiggot rings' i had were plastic, and have died. They've been off the car for a long time. I doubt this is the case... But i can get some to test MustangMustHaves ?)

I'm at a wit's end with what to do next, the clunks got to a point where it's generally all I hear when I'm driving on uneven roads and it's begun to grind itself on my sanity lol.

I've been considering seeing if a BMR CB005 will remove the clunk in its entirety; however, I don't want to pay for something that may end up making the clunk worse... or not improve it (that said, if it did, I would).

Beer for whoever fixes it/finds out what's wrong :)

does the clunk sound from a particular area that you notice?

it could be a number of things, wheel bearings? brake heat shield misaligned, lose suspension bolt/shock (a mate of mine had his whole shock lose which was knocking!!! on a mazda 3 however..)

Have you considered deploying electronic chassis ears, to help find the location of the source of the sound?

does it happen any all speeds? can you simulate it with car stationary ie: rocking it? you're sure its coming from back ?

the only thing above that looks off is "I do run aftermarket alloys which have a CB of 72.6 (vs the cars 70.3) the 'hubcentric spiggot rings' i had were plastic, and have died. They've been off the car for a long time. I doubt this is the case."

so you're running alloys with the wrong center bore and no spacer to line them up ? take those alloys off and put factory ones back on.

I've got a similar issue with mine, my clunk is mainly coming from the front left side of the car but sometimes the right side makes a slight clunk as well. Again the same as you I get it when I go over uneven/potholed road, I also notice it when going over speed bumps. I had steeda progressive springs fitted and it all started after hitting a crest in the road on the front left, I had the guys at modurstang change the shocker which cured it for a couple of days but then it came back! It's really annoying as like you I keep hearing it when driving and it drives me mad! I'm getting pedders coilovers fitted in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping that cures it but I'm not so sure. I've had the car looked over three times now and still cant find anything wrong, I will let you know if I have a fix or not.

This makes sense to me! - nothing to lose by trying it!

Steve I had a similar clunk a while ago, very similar to the one you describe. I took it to the dealer and they found out that my exhausts were touching the frame when I was driving over uneven/potholed road. It had to do with the way they installed the exhausts, so that was an easy fix. Maybe you have the same problem?

Droplinks? Very common cause of clunks/knocks.

The joys of modding!

@DrGrabster - no checked those ford checked it.
@Chappers yes, just infront of the rear tyre it sounds like.
Wheel bearings tightened and fine. Brake heat shield is aligned it looks. Suspension shock is tights and not loose - pedders took these off and reinstalled them to make sure.

@hinch Yeah all speeds, irrespective of speed it'll just have to be an uneven road, if I'm going fast it seems less as the tyre will clear the uneven surface quicker but also the car will be under load so the exhaust can drown it out.
@Scooby67 if yours is like mine; it's not the suspension or atleast it doesn't seem it for me.
W111BOB it's on the list, waiting on @MustangMustHaves to send me new spigot rings ;)! Poke poke PJ.
@MakStang that's what ford keep saying, but I took my exhaust off when I had quads fitted and it still clunked? Ford have said it's not aligned right, but the sound is like a thud.

stiggy not sure, people have suggested that but I don't want to keep throwing money at something that doesn't need changing.

I had mine changed and it made no difference, I'm hoping mine is the suspension if not then at least I can rule out the suspension once I have coilovers fitted. I will be getting ford to try and sort it but I don't have much confidence in them finding it.

My rear suspension creaks when going up drop kerbs or slightly raised uneven ground, like a multistorey carpark ramp wonder if it's related haha

Mine does the same, I’ve never really taken the time to find out what it is but it drives me crazy sometimes.

Only time I had that on a car was with none standard wheels the spacer had corroded and partially broken between the hub and wheel casting .
