Hi Everyone,

I had planned on ordering my new 2017 GT Convertible this Feb. I want a manual, with performance package and some other goodies. This will be my "for fun" car and not my daily driver. My plan is to turbo or supercharge it and add several other for fun mods.

In the course of reading up on these great machines, I am seeing that I can get an almost NO mile like new 2013 or 2014 GT500 Convertible for about the same money that I can order a new Mustang GT for. It is becoming tempting to buy the Shelby with 662hp and get everything I want already done. I know it will not have the IRS, but I am not so sure that matters.

Anyone else consider this before buying a new GT? The idea of a BRAND NEW GT is appealing, also, there is some concern with buying a used 662hp car no matter how low the mileage.

I appreciate your thoughts....

I thought about it before buying the GT350. I'd love to have a used GT500, and there are plenty of well-cared-for examples out there. But I'm more into turning corners than straight line speed, so I decided to go for the GT350.

I think the GT500s are pretty sweet. I am not sure about getting a no mile GT500 for the same money tho. Most of them in 40k range have around 10-20k miles.

I bought my GT used and CHEAP but if I could have gotten a 2013-2014 GT500 for the same money I would have jumped on it instead. Not to say that this car hasnt been AMAZING but I think those GT500s are amazing, not only to look at but performance wise as well!

If you purchase a GT500, stay on track and stick with the 13-14 Trinity model. It's really the car to have.

With that said, despite it's wonderful advancements both in bilstein tuneable shocks, the aluminum 5.8, etc, you'll end up with a better car out of the S550 chassis. It's a better riding/driving/handling car than the GT500. But with that said (again), if you're just wanting a beast/power numbers car then the GT500 would be a solid choice too.

Both are nice cars but IMO they are 2 different animals, for raw power and handling the GT 500 wins hands down compared to a stock S550. Buy the GT 500 and be part of the SHELBY legend or buy the S550 which looks way better and put 15 - 20 k in mods and run circles around the GT 500. Another thing to note is that the TRINITY motor was only a 2 year run and it is very expensive to repair should anything go wrong.

A loaded GT Vert stickers for 49k the way I want it, kbb brings it to 47k.

You'd be buying the last model year before a refresh, a loaded model with the worst resale (all options, convertible) on a car that doesn't hold value well. You'd then be 10k or more into forced induction...

If you want big power, I'd buy without question buy the GT500. It'll hold value better, it can be stock, and maybe even CPO. This is of course the 662hp version I'm referencing.

Buy new bro. Interior(sync 3 is so much better) is better in S550 and like said above chassis, handling, etc is better too. Unless you're drag racing, the jump in hp is negligible.

Get The 14 gt500 with performance pack and track pack if you plan any track time with all the coolers. However that monster motor will eat a full tank in around 25 minutes or less. That's driven really hard. Around town the 500 feels much quicker then the GT and 350. 14 500 with low mileage under 3K is around $47K. New GT Premium PP coupe is around $35K. Read up on the 13/14 500 and you will be amazed. I've owned all three.

227 hp is negligible. Maybe on Mars. The trinity motor in the 14 GT500 with PP and TP will beat a 15 GT PP @ Vir by more then 5 seconds a lap.
With a upgraded break lines you can shave another .005 off the Vir lap times. Forget about accelerating numbers. No contest. 11.5 vs 12.7.

GT500 or Roush RS3 would be a tough comparison

IMO for a fun car, I'd choose a 13/14 GT500 with recaros, daily driver, new GT.
